advice please

I want to get my dad a metal detector.He has not done any detecting before but has been interested.I have done some research and think either a Minelab X terra 70 or Garrett GTI 1500 would be a suitable choice.Could any one of you experienced users offer any advice please.

Sparkie, this is only my opinion. . . .

Between those two machines, for your dad, I would go with the X-terra.

Reason: weight and balance.

I have used both machines, and prefer the X-terra 70 over the Garrett.

Also, the screen display is bigger on the X-terra 70.

Most settings are user-adjustable, so, if he hasn't detected before, I recommend to set everything to the mid-point and go from there. I am sure after finding some coins will make the bug bite set in. Good luck.
