      how about

Dear Sir/Madam, I am from Lithuania and have recently found with one of your detectors the largest hoard of Roman Gold and Silver coins ever found in Lithuania. I was wondering if you would like me to send you some details and pictures of my find. Also I would like to know if it would be possible to upgrade my detector ( model no ) ( ser no )

      Regards Anatolij

                          Hi,
I think it's absolutely normal that they don't wanna help in upgrading or similar sending parts!

If we talk about some minor manifacturers and magazines... well ok... they will in some cases give that things... I mean if you need the programmed IC to make the e.g. Stuart's PI you can order and the like.

It's normal that for a big company this kind of approach to customers is totally wrong... and even the question if machines are or not similar and you can upgrade changing one ic... is totally out of their perspective.

The only thing I find very disappointing is the lack of communication : they could answer emails and say all that I'm talking about in some of their dialects (commercial I mean... and maybe using some legal effect phrase... that is so cool to enstablish roles ... I mean who is the master ).

Also another thing... if you think e.g. at Tesoro and the fact they offer lifetime warranty on all machines... that doesn't mean they allow you to e.g. reverse engineering... or modify stuff... or reloading software or change programmable parts with your own etc etc... no no... they offer warranty on machine BUT BY THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE: you have to pack MD and mail to Tesoro (or authorized by them center)... and that's obvious why: same reason as Minelab --> they don't want you put hands inside the box.. change things...experiment and so on..

So it's clear that Minelab politics is even less fair of Tesoro's or others but they can do cause of their position on MD market: they don't wanna you know about their stuff, schematics (they use paint and coloured pottings...) to make rev. engineering hard like others do but much better than others!
They protect perfectly OTP devices and it's not a case !

Their politics is : ok do you want a better detector/model from us ? BUY IT.

As I said I think that's ok for a manifacturer make so if he want... many do same way. What's the news ?

I've never heard of Microsoft or IBM spreading to the wind their BIG secrets... if not after 20 or more years or cause they are not anymore interested in some technology... or cause they need or are forced to publishing that by law... same for Intel or HP or Motorola... and all the others.

Pretending that Minelab or any other give us upgrade parts for detectors to do some DIY artwork or masterpiece... is pure FANTASY.

Would be too cool to be true !

The only thing we can be disapponted is that they don't answer emails... clearly indicating that their marketing strategy and politics is of don't providing any information or device for DIY "upgrades"... but this, though we can say it's a good or bad thing, change nothing about my view of real business world.

                          Best regards,
                          Max

                              Hi,
ok this time without varnish...or potting stuff... but you have also consider that Eureka Gold is not one of their best or top of the range... price can vary but is under the 900$ for a new unit with 2years warranty.

                              I didn't mean it...but its BIG BROTHERS...

For me their politics is very clear...on the hot stuff they are really serious... just look at the number of patents and you'll get the picture!

And it's nothing new apart a bit aggressive way of doing same things other made before to protect intellectual property.

In any case... they don't want you put your hands inside... or they want so ?
Doesn't your warranty expire if now you'll communicate the serial number of your (uncovered) unit ???

You opened it without removing the label... nice.

But .... read the label before posting... and, most important, mask the serial number next time! Or your warranty will expire in the time they need to read it!

                              Best regards,
                              Max
