  • What a great forum!

I just found this great forum this evening after searching the www for updated information on the latest and greatest metal detectors available today. What a surprise for me to see mentioned some of my Circuit Circus metal detector circuits and the cover photo of my dated metal locator book. Once again I'm getting back into detectors and will spend hours here reading up on what new and old. Cheers, Charles D. Rakes

          Welcome here !

          Treasure Witcher...? Right?

I wanted to make it, few years ago....only couldnt obtain CA3035 ic...
Transistor substitution wouldnt give good performances so i gave up.
But that TX i used in other design and it is working right. Later experimented more with it and replaced UJT transistor with quartz oscillator...
Anyway, i still think your idea is very good, only have to find proper substitution for obsolete components.

          Again very welcome here!
          Best regards!

              Hi Charles,

What a nice surprise to have you drop in. I always enjoyed your magazine column. I hope you don't mind my posting your detector articles... I did ask Larry Steckler shortly after the demise of Poptronics (a very disappointing end to the fantastic legacy of Hugo Gernsback), and he said he did not mind. I also have your 1967 article I would like to add.

What are your goals for metal detection circuitry? Are you writing for a publication, or looking towards another book?

              Regards,
              Carl

                    Thanks for the warm welcome!

Really surprised, and thanks for your kind words. Carl you may use any of my circuits from my books and magazine articles in any way you like.....I hope they won't put every one to sleep. After the magazines closed their pages for good I lost interest and have not been doing any circuit work. However I've become interested in the new breed of metal detectors and was so glad to find a forum that looked on the tech side of things and where people could speak out about the quality/performance of any detector. Will be looking daily to try and catch up from the 80s. Cheers, Charles
