  • Question from Beginner

Hello , Long time detector treasure hunter here . Always bought off the shelf stuff . I have a site that will have cannon balls 4 to 15 foot deep . Bought a 2 box discovery detector and well no results yet .
So now I was looking at a deepers 10 detector[made in mexico] but its 2300.00 dollars . So I thought I would build a pulse machine . After reading theses threads I can't figure out whats going on ? I have better than average mechanical skills but I'm real weak in electronics .
Is there a kit here I can build that will equal great depth and easy to use ?

    Thanks Hollywood

    Hi,
I don't know much about deepers10 or other "deepers" but remember that there were problems some customers reported here during the years with that brand... I think they were referred to inexistent customer service or something like that... someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

So think twice before buy one of these... and consider that at this price of some thousand dollars you can buy really cool stuff if you want and with full support... some brand I would suggest are TBelectronics (they made PulseStarII and others) and Lorentz detectors ...just to make some examples of what you can find on the market of PI for great depth.

Now about depth issue... 4 feets are possible depth for them... but 15 uhm ... you cannot detect a cannon ball at 15 but just maybe the cannon itself.

If this stuff is made of iron you can also think at magnetometers to locate them at more depth than any MD.

    Kind regards,
    Max

There are no true kits. I can think of three designs that are reasonable for a beginner because they have PC boards. My own "Hammerhead" design is a little complex but I wrote pretty decent instructions. Problem is, I have no more (through-hole) PC boards, you would have to get one made. Gary has a PI design and last I heard he still sells PC boards for it. Finally, there is the GoldPic design for which you can buy PCBs. It uses a pre-programmed microcontroller and I'm not sure how well it would work for a large coil.

Finally, you could buy a standard PI (say, a White's Surfmaster or older PI-1000) and adapt it to a large coil.

I am afraid that he must to modify the pulse width. When we use a large coil x1 or 2x2 meters it is better to use a large pulse width from 250us to ..... 1000us .
