Detector Advise

I Found a very large 35mm silver hammered coin the other day, since showing it, I have been told by two differant people that that type of coin is usaly part of a hord wishfull thinking.

But any way, my site is VERY minerised, and to make things worse, it has over the years, had a 10 inch top soil added.

Knowing what you guys know abouts the pros and cons of most detectors.

What would you say is a Deep enough detector that can handle minerised soil, and DOES NOT NULL to much when there is iron about.

I think that your case is a bit complex for any VLF on the market. 10'' added soil would mean you could pass over the e.g. container or hoard and not detect it cause is at more depth in original soil. Very few VLFs can deal with 50cm range buried stuff, and you need also very large coil for that.

An old Relic Hawk could maybe could do that but nobody knows depth of your presumed container or pile of coins so nobody will make right guesses about.

Now the problem is that no vlf could give a serious reading when depth become more than 50cm , even on large items buried if not enormous stuff.

Expecially if the "bulk" is silver you'll have problems with VLFs in that scenario (say if stuff is at 50cm or more). Unless there's a big mass and large e.g. plates /surfaces you'll not detect anything with common VLFs.

If you feel the situation is worth a serious try, I suggest you use a pulse induction there, the large coil types like Delta Pulse or Lorentz or PulseStar series.

Why that ? simple... you'll lose discrimination (don't rely on them about disc)but you will not miss the hot spot if there. Sure this way you'll dig iron too if present but don't worry about soil minerals too much: hi suspended coils make these PI ideal for that situations.

Where to find one...
You probably don't need buy one of them if you have some dealer around: often for this range of MDs you can rent one by days rates and then use without being owner. Also you can maybe find someone that will borrow you one... for nothing or some little cash...cause are really popular machines and about worldwide (with some exclusions) used.

Some MD clubs also could borrow you if you join etc this happens in some countries where MD hobby is really popular stuff.

If you cannot find one for nothing or for cheap rate I suggest you buy one, even used but working... and then resell after prospection was made.

These machines have high turnover and people buy also used with not much worry, just device must still work.

But remember, my detector (x terra 70 with 7.5 hz DD coil) found one of the silver coins at depth.

I was only wanting to know what would be a better VLF detector.

Sorry to be un-clear with my question.

I take your point with the pulse tec, but there is to much iron to make it usable.

What would be the best of the bunch to re-ask the question

Urge, I used a Nexus belonging to Mike Longfield, and I have to say that IMHO this is THE detector for this sort of thing. The depth is incerdible and the iron discrimination is second to none.

Alternatively, you could wait a few weeks for the Pulse Devil to go "live". I've got a demo model AND Dave Emery coming to stay in a few days.

The Pulse Devil will ONLY be available from smaller dealers, so the "big" greedy ones won't be stocking what I think will prove to be a machine which beats ANY Minelab under £2500.

It will be interesting to see how THEY like being left with brands which no one wants to buy .

Old same story!
Some people here already achieved extra depths with their handmades, here, long time ago.
Now all things are more clear; "Nexus this....Nexus that..." - Bull!

Minelab Relic Hawk is closest to solution. Only hard to find it these days..
