I am agree. Tracker IV is absoliutely leader for reverse engineering project. tiny accurate PCB in SMD is the best. much much better than all china products. I am sure Tracker IV has great potencial thinking it is not more tricky than Classic, for example.

Does anyone know of mods or tuning o the Bounty Hunter Tracker IV?

I looked inside a new model and I only saw one trim pot, anyone know what it does?

The Tracker IV had pretty poor depth (4 inches on penny, dime on top of ground). With sensitivity knob turned to maximum, it was very quiet -- too quiet! I think the ground was low mineralization (South Bristol, Maine, USA). Is there a way to boost the sensitivity until it chatters?

The discrimination was not very useful, but I don't care too much, unless there is a useful mod for that. Mainly it needs much more depth -- the coil seems big enough for much more depth.

      Any ideas or schematics?

TODAY is a day of mourning for me . I am suffering and shaking my head in misery, see photo! A metal detector I wanted so bad was sold on e-bay June 29th for $45. dollars and I missed it!!!! A Whites Liberty Di from around 1987. I use to have one and I got rid of it , so I made"A BIG MISTAKE". It was and still is a Great Detector !!! PLEASE anyone who owns one Keep it and post a PCB Photo here !!!! This would be an excellent project with hardly any problems except maybe only the search-coil , and we have a few options with that !!!This is a great detector and worthy of this posting..............Eugene

Yes. I had one and sold it about 5 years ago . I will get another one soon and clone it . And keep both of them this time !!!!! It found targets in hunted out areas and detected as deep as the whites 6000/D. Also had Automatic-ground-balancing that worked perfect...........Later on , you will see a new thread here on this forum called "Lets Build a Liberty Di" !!!!!.............Eugene.

              "OLD FORGOTTEN METAL DETECTOR'S"

Geo made a comment the other day in regards to the Barracuda P.I. detector, that the Schematic was wrong "He is Correct" !!!! If you notice the 4 schematics are very, very similar. Here is the history and the similarities.

              1. The first "Honest Design" was Bill Lahrs Pulse P.I in 1991 for Whites Electronics. see reposted photos

              2. The second "Design was "Search Scan 650RTR "P.I." in 1993 made in Fairhope, Alabama.

              3. The 3rd "Design" Barracuda P.I. was from Anchor Electronics in 1994 . Made in Biloxi,Mississippi which is only 64 miles from Search-Scan .
So which came first the chicken or the Egg????? I attached 4 schematics in a zip file , for comparison. Sorry for the quality of the Whites Schematic , not my fault it was posted "Fuzzy" on the forum by someone else !!!!! Also the cd40106 I.C is not 100% right in the Barracuda Schematic..........Take Care everyone.........Eugene

Here are 2 more from Wilson , and the one I am not posting is called the North-Star , it sure looks like the "Coin-Select" which as of January 2008 was still in production.......So for now here are just the two !!! Don't forget the Wilson VLF/710 posted by Esteban a while back ?? Same Company !!!..........Eugene

Here is a Detector that was sold just a week ago , on Canadian E-Bay for $72.00 !!!! . The person who got this Metal Detector was laughing all the way to the bank . He bought a Metal Detector worth 4 times the amount he paid !!!!! He bought a "DISCOVERY 3 " .Was "Top of the line" , and was brand new in 1995 , very rare and very powerfull !!!!!!!! RADIO-SHACKS 100% LEGAL-CLONED COPY of "BOUNTY HUNTER'S BIG BUD PRO SED" . Discovery 3 also is the "Proto-type" of the discovery 3000 . WOW $72.00 Dollars. If anyone should see this blue and white box that says "DISCOVERY 3" - BUY IT !!! I wish I had better photos , sorry !! OR EVEN BETTER YET , I WISH I OWNED THIS DETECTOR , NOT THE PICTURES....................Eugene

Well , Instead of complaining and making bad remarks about two metal detector companies I do not care for anymore , and now they have merged into one "BIG MESS" I am now happy to introduce another "discontinued" model , for our "Geotech Hall of Fame". And this one is a Deep-Seeker , and the Field tests were very Good !!! It is the Fisher 1266x. The 1200 series started in the 1980s. The two circuit board's photo tells you everything is easy to build , except only one part may be difficult to get is the transformer T-1. Everything else should be easy. The 1236x2 , 1270x and 1280x are still in production as we speak. Yes Fisher did have 2 or 3 good models out of 20. Bounty Hunter has about the same ratio .....I do like this particular model , so I am posting this Classic Geotech "HALL OF FAMER"......Take Care All...........Eugene

I found out that on July 7. 2008 about 2 weeks ago , one was sold on E-BAY for $84.00 u.s. DOLLARS WOW...Un-Believable !!!!!. This Detector sold "new" in 1986 for $599.00 u.s. dollars !!!!! The only problem with this Beach Hunter machine was "USE ONLY IN FRESH WATER !!! NOT SALT WATER !!!!................Eugene

                        Hi Eugene, good contribution.
                        Do you have the pcb´s?
Also, what is the function of the transformer?
                        Regards

Nelson , There was a "Paragraph" written about the transformer , and there was a .PCB file for this 1266 also , but I am having trouble finding it . This was from maybe 2 years ago ?? And yes the field test of this was very , very good . The circuit board looks easy just the stupid tansformer is scary , unless another forum member here has the data on the primary and secondary winding resistance/impedance or a cross reference/substitute number !!! Anyway the HOT-PROJECT here now on Geotech Forum is IVCONICS TESORO GOLDEN SABRE LIGHT-1265 !!! ......I will keep looking for the 1266x files...........XFILES..............Eugene

Thanks Eugene. Yes i agree that tesoro golden sabre is one of the best projects here. Also delta pulse is a good one.
I ll be looking forward to find the 1266 pcb.
                            Regards

I believe that TR1 is critical. Who knows who is the phase shift between primary and secondary?????
As i remember Ivconic tried it without results

GEO , you are 100% correct , something about the phase-shift to eliminate feedback ???? So now is a good time to show you a "Dinosaur Project from Jurasic Park". Remember this project ??? And just a few years after this magazine project was published , they ran out of stock of the Toko coil , and could not find a substitute for this special part which supplied power from the regulator. I posted the pdf file here , so everyone can see the "T-1 TOKO Coil" and what it is doing in the circuit...........This Detector schematic is perfect here on the "OLD FORGOTTEN METAL DETECTOR'S" Thread.......Thanks Geo For making my alzheimers go away for today !!!!.......Bye ...... Take Care All........Eugene
