    Hahaha......
It is a good schematic to study, so to see what happened later!!!!
After it with little changes there is the Proscan, later a chech schematic, later the Gary's PI, later ......... . So this is maybe the "Father " of some later PI detectors.
    Regards

I posted the pdf file here , so everyone can see the "T-1 TOKO Coil" and what it is doing in the circuit...........This Detector schematic is perfect here on the "OLD FORGOTTEN METAL DETECTOR'S" Thread.......Thanks Geo For making my alzheimers go away for today !!!!.......Bye ...... Hi,
it was I good project for me... I mean... when I saw it first time I thought that was really advanced for that years.

Though not exceptional about stability... also cause of lack of good , stable components at that time... it was a good example of deep beach oriented PI.

I think the toko coil was not really the real reason why they stopped producing/selling it.

The reason was probably another: too many letters from users... asking for enhancements and improving about stability and coil.

In the errata you can read about that... and measures they suggested at that time to solve some troubles...

The fact is it was a really interesting unit... but with problematic management of all that requests... that make them crazy I think!

In particular... the threshold stability... uhm... bad issue cause there was no easy solution in the Sandbanks...

      Kind regards,
      Max

        Hi!

        No need toko transformer.
Use chopper configuration instead like in EE T. Hunter then the IC3 is not necessary too.

I forgot to mention due to my alzheimers , somewhere on this forum is a Sprint layout file of the 1266 detector !!!!!.....And , I am not seeing things.....Maybe someone else has a copy of the 1266x Sprint File , it was from 4.0 version .........Eugene

              "OLD FORGOTTEN METAL DETECTOR'S"

O.K. , Getting back to the important Technical issues !!! Away from politics and finger pointing . Which I no longer will get involved with , here on the Geotech Forum !!!........I want to post again a few photos of a Detector that is now discontinued . I believe the frequency is 12.5 khz. I wish I knew more about the "Modules" . Does anyone know about all the optional modules ????? And I see a separation on the housing , so the bottom must be a common base unit , and the top sections must be the different modules. It would be nice to see a catalog of all the modules with specs or even what the actual prices were. OR better yet to find out if the base was just the power supply and audio , disc sections , and the top units were TX and RX sections only ????....... Were they great ??? , or did they have problems ????...Comments are welcome...........Thanks.......Eugene

Don't know about the technical stuff concerning the TB but there was several modules including deep hunter, ProHunter, Cointrax and Goldtrax and another one that I forget.
The base of the detector could be used as is without the extra modules of course. Modules and the base detector are hard to find.
This detector is still a very good one, still keeps up with the best detectors on the market in depth and has some neat features such as a high/low adjustable break tone that has a wide range from anywhere in nails up to zinc pennies and could be set to accept all metals or disc out iron.
The old ones are the ones that can accept the modules.
George Payne's detectors are always good ones.

                  "OLD FORGOTTEN METAL DETECTOR'S"

Steve , Thanks for the information , and maybe we can keep this topic going on "Discovery" for a few days !! A couple things I wanted to mention. If they stop manufacturing the Modules , that is good for the Forum here !! Because I always wanted to get more information and see the Module "PCB-PHOTOS". And the circuits that each module contain !! I think what George Payne did was very Clever and He was ahead of his time !!! You know I kind of see similarities , with today's minelab "xterra series" and the changeable search-coils. Also a question I have had for so many years...... Is the Discovery Detector company we are discussing today , related anyway to the Radio-shack Discovery Series ???...............I hope we get a bunch of new information soon from other Geotech Members . It would be something to finally have a project here on Geotech that is similar to the discovery set-up , also with different changeable modules . One for Coins , one for gold , one for relics. But an improoved version and not a "Copy" of George Paynes Great work !!!!......Thanks......Eugene

Eugene, I don't think the Radio Shack Discovery series is related to this Discovery that he was associated with for some time, except for the fact that they are very old modified versions of his Detectors that he made when he worked for Bounty Hunter. Since he is the founder of modern day motion detectors, I guess all detectors are a variation of his designs.
Yes, I agree, he was way beyond his time, I don't have a chronology of his work or all the brands he worked for but he did work for Whites, Bounty Hunter and Compass. He was responsible was the redesign of the Compass Coin scanner series. Discovery also made house brand detectors for Kellyco and A&S but I don't remember what there names are.
I wish all detectors were designed with the adjustable low/high break tone control like on the Treasure Baron.

Steve , Thanks for your posting's !! If Mr. Payne worked for Bounty Hunter than I would say that is a "Big" Coincidence !!!.... Anyway getting back to Discovery Electronics company , several months ago I found a website or a "Cached Copy" of a discontinued website that had a whole bunch of "inside Photos" of 3 to 4 "Discovery Modules" !!! IN-COLOR and Clear !!!! I wish I would have copied them , now I am kicking myself. I can not find the website. It was for Discovery Modifications and you could see very clear ALL the chips , numbers , color codes, everything.........If someone has "Clear copies" of this information , Please post it Here.. I believe the "Module Series" Has now been discontinued , So it is safe now , to post for GEOTECH'S "R & D" , Research and Development or what I call "RE-INVENTING THE WHEEL".........Take care all.....Eugene

MRAND , Thanks for posting the Discovery link and I now see a total of 3 detector's are still in production.
                          1. Millenium II
                          2. Treasure Baron II
                          3. Treasure Finder 900 a dual-frequency "Deep seeker Two-Box design"
George Payne and his Metal Detectors are "Legends"
The Coin-Trax and Gold Trax and some modules are definitely discontinued . I read this also on many other Metal Detector websites that sell his detector's.......................Eugene

While we are waiting for the "Discovery Module" photos and schematics from other Members !!!! Here is another Metal Detector that seemed very impressive just a few years ago , and now , like many others has "JUST DISSAPPEARED" !!!!! It was a Pulse Induction , but worked at a crystal-controlled 5,333 Pulses per second "P.P.S." !!! And the tuner adjusted the "Threshold" But I still do not understand why Fisher picked that frequency , but the field tests I read were pretty Good . I wonder why it was discontinued ??? So now , this would be an excellent Metal Detector to open up and examine , and then many questions will be answered. I am sure everyone knows we are talking about the "Fisher Impulse" by now............Eugene

Target ID / Depth meter , and Used a 4 pack of nicad "C" cell Batteries . Depth on this machine was an average of 34 c.m !!!!! Using the Whites 9.5 inch blue max search-coil. ...........You can buy one today for $250.00 to $300.00 , and to me that's a Bargain !!!!............Eugene

                              • Looking for a transformer which will fit into the Fisher 1266 you are making??

                                http://www.maplin.co.uk/search.aspx?MenuNo=12442&FromMenu=y&doy=search

Try the miniature audio transformer at the bottom of the page (LT44). The ONLY function this provides is 180 degree phase shift between the two channels of the machine.
No surprise Fisher went bust. In the UK they have lamers as dealers who know nothing about metal detecting, only about ripping people off . I contacted Fisher and TOLD them the machines they were making were rubbish and would not sell , and that they should go back to making the 1266 X2.
Even now I can sell a good second hand 1266 for around £200 ($370) and people bite my hand off to get at them.
So now you have the “hard to get hold of” part that's been holding you all back.
