THIS NEW THREAD WILL BE TO SEE HOW I.C.'S ARE USED IN VARIOUS STAGES OF A METAL DETECTOR CIRCUIT. THIS THREAD WILL BE DOWN TO THE "COMPONENT LEVEL". I CHECKED THE T.HUNTING ARCHIVES ON PATENTS AND FOUND 86 PATENTS ON VLF DETECTOR'S. MASSIVE AMOUNT'S OF INFORMATION !!!!! WHAT THEY ALL HAVE IN COMMON IS ALL OR MOST FILES HAVE "BLOCK DIAGRAMS" !!!!! BLOCK DIAGRAMS ARE VERY IMPORTANT FOR WRITING PATENT'S AND TO UNDERSTAND WHAT A ENGINEER OR DESIGNER IS DOING . SOMETHING WE DO NOT POST HERE TOO OFTEN ARE BLOCK DIAGRAM'S. PLENTY OF SCHEMATICS ARE POSTED HERE BUT THAT IS NOT ENOUGH. SO THIS NEW THREAD WILL IDENTIFY EACH STAGE OF A METAL DETECTOR AND WHAT IT DOES AND THE I.C.'S ROLE IN THAT CIRCUIT OR STAGE . IT WILL EITHER BE A PORTION OF THE BLOCK DIAGRAM OR PORTION OF THE SCHEMATIC.....OR IT COULD EVEN BE A PART NUMBER OR MULTIPLE PART NUMBERS IN QUESTION. HERE ARE SOME EXAMPLES OF METAL DETECTOR STAGES 1. TRANSMIT SECTION OR FRONT-END 2. DIGITAL TO ANALOG CONVERSION. 3. MULTIPLEXING 4. RECIEVE SECTION 5. AUDIO THRESHOLD OR AUDIO AMP. 6. DISCRIMINATION OR NOTCH CIRCUIT'S. AGAIN THE PURPOSE OF THIS THREAD WILL BE TO UNDERSTAND WITH 100% ACCURACY, WHAT THE COMPONENTS IN THE CIRCUIT STAGES ARE DOING. I HOPE THIS THREAD IS A SUCCESS. I WILL POST SOME SCHEMATICS THAT ALREADY HAVE THE STAGES IDENTIFIED. AND THEN WE WILL BREAK IT DOWN FURTHER TO GIVE A VERY INFORMATIVE "CIRCUIT ANALYSIS" OR EDUCATIONAL DESCRIPTION............EUGENE

METAL DETECTOR "INTEGRATED CIRCUIT" APPLICATIONS...
I AM NOW TRYING TO GET MY CLIPBOARD FUNCTION WORKING ON MY WINOWS XP SOFTWARE. THEN I WILL POST SOME BLOCK DIAGRAMS AND THE CORRESPONDING CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION'S . I DO NOT WANT TO DOWNLOAD FULL PAGES , JUST SMALL SIZE IMAGES AND SMALL SCHEMATICS. IT WILL SAVE SPACE ON THE FORUM AND BE MUCH EASIER TO STUDY !! EACH SECTION POSTED MAY ONLY HAVE 10-15 COMPONENT'S , MORE OR LESS, BUT THE PURPOSE WILL BE TO SEE WHAT IS GOING ON WITH THE CURRENT,VOLTAGE AND FREQUENCY OF THE CIRCUIT "HIGHLIGHTED" AND THE PURPOSE OF THAT STAGE OR "ITS FUNCTION". I AM NOT ACTUALLY POSTING DATASHEETS ON I.C. CHIP'S THEMSELVES , WE ARE STUDYING HOW THE CHIP WILL BE USED IN THE CIRCUIT. TRANSISTOR CIRCUITS WILL BE STUDIED ALSO...............EUGENE

METAL DETECTOR "INTEGRATED CIRCUIT" APPLICATIONS...
HERE IS JUST ONE OF THE THINGS I AM TRYING TO DO . I HAVE DOWNLOADED A TON OF U.S. PATENTS FOR REFERENCE . AND THEY ARE PDF FILES AND THEY ARE OF COURSE "PUBLIC RECORD". I WILL SHOW 3 TYPES OF IMAGES. THESE HERE , ARE JUST AN EXAMPLE FROM COMPASS ELECTRONICS ... #1. BLOCK DIAGRAM #2. SCHEMATIC # 3. CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION . IF I GET THIS "CIRCUIT ANALYSIS" OR SOMETHING CLOSE TO IT TO WORK . THAT WILL BE GREAT !! ANY COMMENT'S OR CRITICISM ARE VERY WELCOME. ALSO "CIRCUIT ANALYSIS" FROM OTHERS WILL BE WELCOME................EUGENE

it is an excellent idea to analyze and describe the circuits in minute detail.
Many fine design points are not obvious to anybody who does not have great familiarity with metal detectors.
For example where is the difference between the often used integrator and the seldom used Sample and Hold amplifier?
Or, what is the effect of AC coupling the signal?
What are the negative effects of it?
How can AC coupling in the signal path be avoided?
There are so many circuits available for analysis and much can be learned by it.

METAL DETECTOR "INTEGRATED CIRCUIT" APPLICATIONS...
HELLO 1843 , I hope I will be able to start on this sometime next week-end . Delta pulse is a P.I. And its functions are much easier than VLF with discrimination. And there will be others on this forum who will help with this also . My main concern IS Keeping it simple and brief. If somebody wanted a block-diagram and complete description of Tesoro Cutless , No problem. Delta Pulse no problem. It will be like converting circuit layouts to simple english. For some it will be easy , for me I am almost ready for that step. No other forum has a "Circuit analysis" like this yet !! But the key is we must have a schematic of the detector , or a perfect crystal clear photo of the detectors circuit board. If you read all the Tesoro Golden Sabre threads , A few of the great members of this forum disected that machine and gave a 100% circuit description and how it functions , from one end of the circuit board to the other. I want to do the same with other detectors. The purpose is to learn what the components and stages are doing across the circuit board. Like a Forum "Electronic Classroom" with everyone contributing ........................Eugene

"METAL DETECTOR "INTEGRATED CIRCUIT" APPLICATIONS...
Ok , We are getting closer to what I promised. We will first start with a simple VLF circuit. I do not have to use much of the 150 mega-bytes of Patent's I downloaded...So not to many block-Diagram's from the Patent pdf files will be used. For Reference I have down loaded 130 mega-bytes of just the "Tech-Forum" section of "Our" Geotech here !! It seems like just a "tip of the Ice-Berg" !!!. The knowledge that This entire Forum has is amazing !!. I wonder what the size is, in Giga-Bytes !!. I have been studying for several days now . So with everyones help this " Metal Detector "Circuit Analysis" will Be a Great Classroom. Simple VLF'S will be the Starting Point.........I am getting the first schematic ready , from the mid 1980s...........Thank-You...............Eugene

There are some very interesting microcontrollers from Atmel:
ATTiny2313
ATTiny13
ATTiny45
ATMega8 and other ATMega µC
..
In-system-Programmer and serial interface:

Making some portable detectors should be possible in reasonalbe amount of effort. I will order some of these chips to start with PI technology parallel to VLF laptop detector.

METAL DETECTOR "INTEGRATED CIRCUIT" APPLICATION...
AZIZ , Welcome Back !!!! 1. Please read my post at the top of the page under "Other metal analyzing methods". Then you will see how I think Discrimination and or "target I.d." Might work. 2. Atmel , is that a German company ?? All those "tiny- chips" reminds me of the "Pulsdetector.De " Website !!. Also at the Pulsdetector.de site, All the Very Good detectors are for sale $$, but the one's you can build are free ????!!
Anyway Aziz , Great you are back again and not "Permanently Detained" !!!!..............Eugene

Hi Eugene,
I think Atmel isn't a german company. Otherwise, I would boycott them in this case.
http://www.fundinguniverse.com/compa...y-History.html
But the main advantage of using Atmel µC is:
- damn cheap (ATtinys 2$ per peace) and easy to get
- wide spread applications and free tools
- easy to program (many programming tools for cheap or for do-it-yourself)
- well documented
- easy to use
- small sizes and less pins
For the timing and logic unit of a PI, this is really predestinated for this task. Operating on 16 or 20 MHz is fast enough to get a good timing resolution. Also good for the VCO of audio signal generation, driving LCD displays, etc.
This is the main reason for, why the german site uses Atmel µC's. I want to buy some of these chips for reserve and will take this to my destination living place and would continue developing on this stuff.
Regards,
Aziz

METAL DETECTOR "INTEGRATED CIRCUIT" APPLICATION...
Hello 1843,simonbaker and all , the "circuit analysis" posting's are almost ready to begin !!! I have been side-tracked working on PCB software. I Have 5 or 6 schematics ready for disection and they are very popular metal detector circuit's .So , "one schematic at a time" I will describe the function of each of the detector stages and what the different types of component's are doing . And I will try to keep it as simple and short as possible. Hopefully just a few paragraphs, not an encyclopedia !!I will also learn from the feedback I recieve. Thanks for your patient's .................Eugene
