Questions regarding DIY metal detector for scuba diving

Hi all, I just found this forum while searching the web for information regarding metal detectors for underwater, specifically salt water. I have browsed the schematics forum and I am excited by the number of metal detectors available. Can anyone provide me with some input as to which type would be better for underwater? Also, is there any limit to how close the search coils are to the detector circuit? I would like to make the unit pretty small.

My first thought is to make the Blind Squirrel PI Detector, as it seems very simple and easy to operate.

Any thoughts and recommendations are welcome. Thanks!
