If the current state of US economy shall persist, it's more likely that Mineoro buys Whites, Garret, etc. just to have extra space to develop more LRLs.

No really, Hung, it would be greatest sacrilege in metal detecting world!

Most finest metal detectors company (White's) to become part of most lunatic & crackpoting lrl manufacturer (Mineoro) in the world!!! God NO! NEVER!
            It would be HUGE SACRILEGE!
            Luckilly it will never happen!!!

Congratulations Carl , and "BEST OF LUCK" to you and your family !!!! I do not know you personally , but from reading all your posts here on Geotech since 2001 or so , I know that you have a ton of electronics experience , both as a Technician and as an Engineer , and also have a great knowledge about metal detection . So Whites Electronics has made an excellent choice !!! Hopefully you will keep in touch and not dissappear off the radar !!!!! And I hope this Forum stays up and running for years . So Please find a Gigantic "Hard-Drive" to keep all this "Geotech Forum-Data" saved for Years !!! .......take care.....Eugene

                      A Great Opportunity

                      Carl,

This will put you right in the thick of metal detector key issues related to: technology, marketing and performance. Good luck!

As you say, one thing lacking in the current White's catalog is a deep-seeking PI, like the MDL 8500. I would personally be interested in filling this void but White's can't base products on my interests, they have to make business sense. But Itellyawhat, I'll put this on my to-do list to look at.

There is a huge difference in the market for an MXT and a deep seeking pulse detector. That's why you don't see any of the big boys putting those in their catalogs. I doubt very much that Whites, Garret, Minelab, Bounty Hunter, Fisher, JWFisher, ettc. will ever add one to their line. This may be a difficult part of the transition to Whites for you. They are interested in selling many thousands of each model, they aren't interested in a detector that might sell 50 to 100 per year and realistically that's all that can be expected at best out of a deep seeking pulse detector, they all carry 1 beach pulse detector and that's it. The contraints of a real business rather than a hobby may be disappointing for you for this.

Also, you might be kidding yourself if you think you'll get to say a whole lot on anything about this hobby/technology on the forums although I suspect Whites is a little more lenient in this respect. Do you remember when Dave Johnson was out of work a few years back and appeared out of no where? He got into deep discussions about metal detectors for several months and really shared a lot of great information on the forums. Then he got a job, I believe with Bounty Hunter, and he said he could no longer share. He went away without a peep. I'm sure he is reading your website but keeps his mouth shut. Based on his desire to talk about this love of his, being in the business made a huge change for him and required him to keep to himself.
                            Best wishes to you...

I hope White's lets you keep running this forum, because it is one of the best I've ever seen.

I'm well-aware of the business constraints and doing market justifications for products. I've walked away from some really cool chip designs that I would have loved to do. Maybe a deep-seeker can be justified, maybe not. BTW, JWFishers' business model is primarily that of low-volume specialty products.

Also, you might be kidding yourself if you think you'll get to say a whole lot on anything about this hobby/technology on the forums although I suspect Whites is a little more lenient in this respect. Dave was discussing some leading-edge ideas in an effort to market his talents. He was successful. I'm sure I'll be able to continue discussing the technology in general, but probably not in the depth and obviously not any leading edge ideas that White's would be interested in.

Who knows, like Dave I may decide on a quiet exit, and just hand the forums off to someone else. Don't know yet.
