    Saw the pictures...

Uhm... really worse situation there... it's the worse way I've ever seen about demining... or well... scrap recovery, in this case!

It's really a problem if someone will recover a live one... and with that toy on hand it's really probable that sooner or later it will happen without any possibility of e.g. digging it on right edges if e.g. a live cannon piece , where there's no trigger device I mean.

In case of landmines it's almost impossible make an accurate pinpointing and just luck could prevent a big blast there.

It's really a crazy thing beliving in such luck for long time... but that reminds me that asian culture is a bit related to fatalism and so that's maybe a explaination on what's in that pictures.

    Kind regards,
    Max

        Hi,
        Check out the following document:
        http://www2.foi.se/rapp/foir1664.pdf
It is in Swedish, but the pictures are very eloquent. Quite a few pictures about early and latest HUMUS, which is the Swedish army MD (Mine Detector). It is, as Max said earlier, a combination of metal detector and ground penetrating radar. As you can see from the pictures, one has to eat well before putting all that equipment on oneself.
        Regards,
        R.A.

It would be quite human and fair from USA goverment to establish professional team there and equip them good for mine locating. It is sad to see how those people are suffering more, even these days!
In my country also, after 1999. nato agression, lot of bombs left arround.
Yet, we all are equiped well and do clean soil succesfully. What we can not see and clean is nuclear waste left from "humanity bombs" they droped here. It is noticeable that some plant species totally disapeared from 1999.
          Also some rare cancers appeared.
Hey! Sorry i left the subject! I am sorry cose bugging you here!

Personally i am admiring that guy from photo! If i could, i would send him latest, high tech demining device! But i cant.
How about we all gather, organize and provide some help to them? Ha?
          Any interested?

USA is not the only country selling APM and ATM

How would you suggest to do something about it? It is sometimes more complicated than perhaps you can imagine. A few years ago we wanted to donate a SIR2 GPR system and after almost half a year in the customs it was returned to us. You see, we were stupid enough to put the word "radar" in the items descriptions. It never made it through the customs and we had to pay the freight both ways for nothing. However, I do respect your intentions, as RW said:

"Not the torturer will scare me
              Nor the body's final fall
Nor the barrels of death's rifles
Nor the shadows on the wall
Nor the night when to the ground
The last dim star of pain, is hurled
              But the blind indifference
              Of a merciless, unfeeling world"

              Regards,
              R.A.

I think you mean the A-10's Avenger rounds...truly a big problem, I see, cause you cannot remove that powder, and people breath it, eat it and drink it everyday there, now. It's a permanent wound.

Really not anything humanitarian in that!

Like agent orange in the Vietnam war... or sulfur mustards in the WWI.

Probably the A-10 will be totally replaced soon... but I dubt that stuff will disappear from the ammunitions stocks in the next future.

                  But, please, no politics here.

                  Kind regards,
                  Max

Of course not. We can not agree on smaller things here, not to mention politics!!! God No!

Only is sad to see that guy torturing himself with funny handmade. And very sad to read some lines here, on this forum, remarking his poor abillities in locating those crap from past wars.
We do enjoy here comfort in abillity to use high tech devices. We have here good detectors.
We not supposed to laugh on that guy efforts. Instead, it would be nice if we can help him somehow? Right?

                          Hi,
you're right. Maybe the best help would be a more reliable and powerful detector, no-motion design.

I think PI are the best today as MDs for demining purposes cause are very powerful if ground signal is not an issue and you search for ferrous/steel stuff, like in demining often is.

The AN/PSS-12 (NATO AN19/2) is that way: PI , T-R design, with concentric coils.

Sure it's not good for most modern landmines... for reasons already explained, but it's good for Vietnam, Cambodia and the like... old minefields... old unexploded live ammunitions etc and sure, also, for metal scrap recovery, why not?

Now, cause AN/PSS-12 is a professional machine... military grade with its patents... it's impossible replicating it here...or publishing schematic etc... so the idea could be simply modifing an existing , well known schematic (simple enough) to suite minimal requirements.

I think that some PI projects like HH could be converted for T-R use in that kind of search, same for others like delta-pulse/xr-71.

The scope would be changing schematic as required and make a T-R coil simple enough to be replicated at low cost in poor countries by private organizations or by government funds in small factories.

That would be a real benefit for those countries...much more of sending demining volunteers there, as in past and still today.

That would be providing some technology more... that , even with a BIG disclaimer, could save some people from walking over a mine or triggering an unexploded ammunition.

                          Kind regards,
                          Max

Old mines, grenades and bombs are usually made from some metal. You are right; PI detector is more than good in that matters.
Modern explosive devices are other things, usually made of materials hard to detect.
That is why some md manufacturers have separated producting lines for military needs.
PI will save life in most cases for sure.

                              The danger with minelab detectors

Hello roberts , Technology is making some Great advances that will be able to actually see in the Ground , the soil / explosive device "Differences" and verify by computer that something does not belong there !!! Also they are working on High-Tech vibration devices to safely destroy the unexploded ordinances , with all military and civilian personal at a safe "remote-control" distance..........Thanks for your posts roberts...........Take Care ..............Eugene

Here is a Great little PDF file from a public website . From what I read , it is very educational , with some good color photos . Some , may have seen this already . But it looks like it is worthy of posting here . I am still looking for more information on GPR and ground anomalies .............Eugene
