But then you will get all kinds of response from the salt water waves, and from coil motion... you need the HPF offered by the motion mode.

The motion mode has advantages and the non motion mode has other advantages.
It is rather difficult to have both in one machine and switching between them.
But how about a DC coupled differential motion mode and then switching to the old fashioned non motion mode for pin-pointing and verifying?
This seemed to work fine on the breadboard.
