  • UNASHAMED PLUG!! NEW Sovereign Meter.

    Carl REMOVE this if it's not appropriate.

    All, I sold Pulsar (well it's customer list and remaining stock) to a company called Search Technology, they've asked me to finish some of the designs before I get paid and I need to do some market research for them on this also.

    Who remembers the Patrick Electronics "Patriot" TID for the Sovereign, sold (well didn't really) for $299 (OMG)!!

    Well look at the attached .EXE simulation (mostly functional) and let me know what you think this is worth (retail). It's a FULLY programable meter for the Sov (and the new Pulse Devil) and instead of stupid numbers like the Sunray, Minelab and other meters, allows you to enter your OWN definitions into it. No more remembering what 273 means, it's what YOU told the meter it should be in plain English, or whatever, AND it allows you to store multiple profiles too .

    My question is this;

    WHAT would you think a meter like this would be worth (what would YOU be willing to pay for a meter like this) OR what price would it HAVE to be for you to say "Yeah I WANT one of those" and go buy one?

    Sensible prices only and I'm looking for figures that reflect it's NOT a $10 volt meter module in a $5 plastic housing. I.E it's NOT a rip off!

    BTW, the housing you see is a White's MXT housing, the final meter will be in something a little "sexier" .

    Sean, say me WHY?! why you do waste a time on this very poor design? why you do not want HEAR what people say you - DO A GODOGRAF. IT IS THE BEST! GODOGRAF gives you GRAPHIC full information, your patriot gives only TWO-THREE DIGITS!
    again I ask you do not waste a time on the squalid meter seems like yet one patriot! you can really blast away the sleeping people if will do this thing!

      I agree, Godograph is best, but VERY impossible as Sovereign ONLY gives a DC voltage output on ONE channel.

      The voltage output is related to the conductivity of the target.

      The UniMeter I am working on also will use the Godograph, AND also a numerical VDI readout of target, but this is for another application.

      It is not possible to make a Godograph meter for the Sovereign, unless I hack around inside, and there is no market for that / I do not have the time for modifications anymore.

      Where can I find source code or flowcharts for Godograph please?

              Hi Sean

              unfortunately I can only answer as a MD user, and from what I've learned is very difficult to recive a signal 100% reliable from a meter.

              The original Mlab meter i had on my sov ( i sold it ) was afflicted by differences in groud and salt;

              BTW i could pay max 100€ for a good programmable meter if really reliable .

              Ciao

                OK, you can't program this "demo" version, the full one will plug into your PC USB port and run a program which will allow you to do this. How you will do it is this;

                1) Switch on the Sovereign and the meter will auto on.

                2) Recall or new Calibration? In this example we'll use an exiting search head calibration factor, although the process is VERY simple and fully automatic.

                3) Select active profile.

                4) Select edit (via target response) and press ENTER (This option is not shown on the demo model)

                5) Simply wave the target back and forth over the search head. then press ENTER again. A range of numbers the target gave will be displayed. You can then remove or add numbers or include or exclude ranges of numbers using the UP, and DOWN arrows.

                6) When finished, press ENTER again and you will be taken to the "description field" this will allow you to scroll thorugh letters/numbers and enter a string of text saying what that target is.

                7) Store the result and return to active hunting mode

                Now, everytime the Sovereign ses that range of numbers, it wall display the text YOU entered.

                The alternative method is to plug the meter into your PC and use the spreadsheet like software to enter number ranges/target descriptoins a LOT quicker. We had ot do both systems as you might want to edit or fine tune programs in the field.

                I grant that the Sovereign DOES have problems with salt and the like, but we have found a way of "profiling" the numbers the Sovereign throws out, hence the facility for four different target groups;

                1) Inland

                2) Beach

                3) Prospecting

                4) User

                Each of these takes into account the way numbers on the Sov vary. No one has done this before, and as far as I have seen even found a way to do this. We have .

                I'm not asking you to buy one, just give me some ideas of what price you would pay if you could be convinced that this meter actually, and for once, does what the manufacturer says it does .

                ALL help is appreciated.

                I will have my software guy write a more complete function version and I will post it here when I can OK?

                    Ah!,that explains it a bit better Sean. programmed/edited from usb on a pc.
                    meter would include software an manual for the user of course?
                    Can it be retrofit to any other detector as a kit or is it just hardwired an married to a Sovereign only? if so wont be a lot off interest from the detector aftermarket scene to sell it as a unit an a meter alone!
                    If it was a complete kit to retrofit to a wide variety of detectors without extensive workshop mods.,would easily sell for $100US + ,Id,buy One!
                    If its for Sovereign Only! then No interest!one novel feature of a programmed meter for a Sovereign would still result in a no sale,without some other destinct model performance upgrades.
                    nice tho!the Meter.

                        It has an internal 2800mAh NI-MH battery pack. Search Tech didn't want to power it off the Sov Tx like the Minelab meter as in tests they've found that this takes around 1-2" of depth off the max detectable.

                        The meter is auto on and off (senses the Sovereign Tx). Backlight has three modes. OFF, ON, and On when target with fade out and abjustable brightness. Also the LCD display is large format 1cm characters with fully adjustable contrast.

                        It only fits the Sovereign at the moment, BUT, I have just finished the hardware design and handed over the files for the UniMeter(TM) which is a meter that adds TID to ANY single frequency machine. This is will be built and start field tests later this year. If the results are good then it will go on the market as soon as possible after that. Target price is $149.

                        I'm seeing from other forums that the target price should be around $150 total. This will be difficult as custom cables have to be made in some cases and this means that Search Tech will have to sell something like 1200 meters just to get their money back on my bill for the R&D alone.

                        I believe that this Sovereign meter will be released on 5 October this year. All I did was design it and hand over the files for manufacture. Beyond that I'm just along for the ride

                          sov meter

                          Sounds great, I think $200 would be a great price, based on the cost of the Minelab meter. To be honest, I'd pay $250.
