Maybe a good place to test some detectors. I am not sure, but I would swear, that I also saw some pure iron.

I bet, every metal detector will fail there. Can you see the banded iron formations? Hematite and magnetite layers can be exactly seen. The black ones should be magnetite and the red ones should be hematite layer.

Hi Aziz,
I actually live very close to Karijjini, its only a mere distance of 400Kms. A day trip away and have visited the location many times. That type of banded iron formation is common in the Pilbara region. I use a modified SD2000 and the detector will work reasonably well in this type of terrain. The GB response it not so bad and occasionally you will come up against some iron stone that will be detected as a target. What is really bad is that accompanying this type of banded iron is the mineralised ground and this can be real bad and a ***** to detect in. The SD2000 has manual adjustment and there are many areas that I have detected where the GB changes every few meters. Constantly ground balancing the detector. Still found gold though.

Pooles patent pre-dates my idea so I guess he got there first (dammit). I don't care really as I'll never do anything with my idea, I can never afford it. I posted it in the commercial section of the forum, and the Whites V3 uses part of what was contained in my idea (display methods) but I have no intention of chasing Whites. I'm happy to say "that was my idea" and produce the documentation to prove I got there long before Whites. I value my relationship with Whites too much to p*ss them off in any way. I just wish they had honoured the offer when I helped them recently of a free V3 (can you do anything about that please Carl)?
I agree about Candy though, from what I see his patent is now COMPLETELY invalidated (according to a friend of mine who is a patent lawyer in the UK) it's partly down to obfuscation on the part of "Snake Oil Candy" and the fact that the USPO is SO overworked they do not examine most patents.
I think I told you about the friend of mine who submitted an EXISTING patent and had it accepted under his name then 'fessed up to the fact that he was proving a point. SO, let's all reverse Engineer away. HAHAHA.

All granted patents are enforceable unless you can challenge them either through a re-examination by a patent office or a court challenge. Unless you have bucket loads of money .......good luck with that. Remember the penalty for violating a patent is triple damages plus costs .......an aggrieved patentee can take you, your family and your window cleaner to court if they want to.
If you want to exploit patented technology ... only build stuff that is described in expired patents and build it "slavishly" or exactly to the specification in the patent. Even use the same patent wording and diagrams in your user manuals ( and reference the patent numbers also ) ... it will be difficult for a later patentee to make a claim stick to you as they will be attempting to claim prior art.
Alternatively there is plenty of currently patented stuff that was done using hardware and with some cleverness on your part can now be done in software. Move the hardware process part into the software and you are done ( and so are they ) Algorithms cannot be patented ... code can be copyrighted though ... but if you rewrite in a "clean room" even code functionality can be duplicated.
AFAIK waveforms ( voltage and/or current ) cannot be patented particularly if they are fundamental mathematical constructs ( raised cosine, sinc, square, rectangular etc ) however the method of producing them can be .... otherwise you could patent music ... its a waveform after all.
Another alternative is to design a "end user programmed" device .... let the user "program" the functionality of the device by either connecting it or configuring it or adding something to it in a way which is not inherant functionality of the device ( and not in your user manual either ) and thus does not violate a patent. The dongles that people used to bypass Sony PS3 encryption were ruled non-infringing as they did not use anything in a Sony patent ( rather they used something that was missing in the patent ....good security )
