    Thanks Altra

I haven't read that patent before.

    Simon,

I read about the battery charging idea a fair while back, it has merit for sure.
I have or had an article from NASA that had a circuit in it of exactly this type of thing, they used it to charge batteries in space.
It is an old paper but worth having a look at. I just can't seem to find it at the moment & if you saw my office you could understand why.

I think they called it a Flyback Converter, i'll try to find the paper but no promises, it's been a while since i read it.

There was another circuit i read about & i have attached the circuit, they were charging 12v Lead Acid Batties with it, they use a transformer in the schematic. I haven't tried the circuit so i wouldn't know if it works or not but apparently it does, it may give some idea's.

Hey, could be a useful reference anyway for approaches.

My guess is that the hard part is recovering the energy while still minimizing the pulse duration -- two goals that may be hard to achieve at the same time.

Maybe doable with a clever circuit...

        Cheers,

          Gday Guys,

I was reading Mr Candy's Patent posted above & they gave mention of another patent. US41491
In this i think i have found Mr Candy's secret, it is obvious once you have a look yourself & you can see where all his idea's have come from.

This used to be the best Detector in the world--attached below, she goes real deep after a couple of passes .

You smartie pants, first I read the date on the patent and I couldn't believe somebody had a patent for a metal detector such a long time ago. After I saw the "diagram", everything was clear

            Cheers,
            Nicolae
