I would be happy with 50cm for coin because I go to the beach a lot and things are usually buried deep (coins and rings ) .So practically speaking I would love to see something that can do it ...Is there anything on the forum we can make that can go to those depths ...because where I am I am the only one with pi detector every onelse is vlf and the beaches are still hiding their stuff

Then draw your own conclusions.

I have owned about ten detectors in the past and yes marketing is the big thing ....I can tell you the 2 machines I now keep and really love is my 2 garretts one vlf and one pi xl500....My xl 500 can pick up a 20cent ozzie coin from 40cm and if i can get the audio to amplifiy better it will see it at 45cm no problem. And the best thing is they are both over 20 years old

Garret's are good for primitive soils like sandy beaches. I agree. Never mind if those are old and obsolete. But if you want to gain better results, maybe is time to go furhter and buy something new. For locating single coin to few coins togather in soil, best choice would be some good VLF. But to locate larger metal masses, deposits etc.... at enourmous depths than PI is only solution. But i guess, you already knew that. But also you can not expect extremly good results on single coin in soil with PI detector. For such small and coloured item VLF is only solution.

Do you think kellyco will sell my failed hammerhead pi as some kind of lrl mystery machine...jokes aside I have trouble at the beach ...everything is deep ...for example coins and rings are hard to pickup in deep sand and Thats what I care about deep rings and coins...

In this months aussie gold magazine ..a guy was using a gpx4500 in an area and found nothing and then went and buaght a new whites GMT and in the exact same spot picket up 32 ounces of nuggets...Now what does that tell you ..and you know what I have owned of the GMT and my old garret vlf is better than the new GMT by miles and my garrett xl 500 for what I use it for is better than the gpx4500 cos I have used one aswell. And the price is not the issue here I can afford those machines but they are just not practicall to use and arent any more sensitive

but if these guys are for real about 70cm for coin I am really interested but it recovery is as you say, then that poses problems for me it will not be practical to use so it will end up on ebay. But my question is.Is there a detector we can make that can detect a coin at around 50cm

special configuration on GSIV let you do that.
For special config I mean a special coil, mostly... and larger than original 8''.
Indeed... I think many PIs can do that... if used with proper coil on almost dry sand... so far from shore (in wet sand performances at depth could be different). Problem is that once you have such monster you're also on the road for heavy work... once I dug maybe 60cms of sand to find a rusty paint can!
That's why PIs , though fascinating "on air" for the depth can be a real pain in the *** on real searchfield...
Kind regards,
Max

I would like to have a go at the goldscanIV but is there a complete instructions on pcb and parts placement diagram along with instructions ...I dont want open parameters and trial this and that type of project because im fairly new to electronics and even the experts are having trouble when it comes to experimenting, but when it comes to building to drawings I am very confident and capable ....for example i had a go at the hammerhead and it has 11 pots leaving huge variables ...the project has been around for a while why not put the correct resistors that make the thing work and have only 3 or 4 pots to tune surely the measuremnts for resistances have been worked out ,and then put them as a project so that it is more straight forward to make...I mean my old xl500 has not pots on the board at all ...why cant somebody just put the correct values for the hammerhead on the forum ...anyway I have looked at the gs4 on the forum and it is inthe same boat too many uncertain values and have a look at the pcb I have printed it out and on the blue press and peel paper and tried it on a new fresh board and I can tell you it is impossible to make a pcb out of those pictures it comes out terrible on the board .so surely is the pcb drawing deliberately blurry makes me wonder....Can somebody put a correct working diagram with clear pcb and parts placement diagram so we can make it ....then I can find those deeply buried rings and coins
