Hello,

French and I am a newcomer on this forum.
I am 33 years old and lives near Strasbourg.
My electronics experience is limited.
Indeed, despite the fact that I am able to weld, burn CI, use an oscilloscope ect ...., I do not have extensive knowledge in electronics.
My experience in detection is also limited.

But I like learning !

So therefore, I want to get into the construction of a VLF detector technology and PI technology.
I have a certain appeal for Tesoros, having used a ago as 15 years.
Bandido series, Golden and Silver Saber ect .... seems to be interesting.
What do you recommend?

Regarding the PI, I hesitate between PI Mark Stuart amended and GoldPic3. They seem to be quite good.
Also, what do you recommend?

Finally, as one of my main hobbies is searching for gold in rivers, I am interested in the Goldspear, is there a pattern thereof, may be produced by an individual and more importantly, what do you think about Goldspear ?

my experience

i'm newbie too (not to electronics),and i started a couple of months ago,reading all about hammerhead 1.(all the posts from beggining).
There is a 15 page set of instructions.detailed with some minor errors on list of materials.

if you read those careously,you can start a hh (monocoil for starting) easy.

this is an very good machine thats going to teach to you how a pi machine works.(was very effective to me).

i have read and re read all posts about this and coils.(half the battle)

i have started an hhvers1,and is working ok.(i'm learning how to set up with almost all pots in front.

is a clear machine,and is going to tell you all you want know.

recently,i've made a tgsl by ivconic,other kind of machine.is airborne and ok.now is time to push it to his limits(second step).

those two machines have solid feedback on forums-you must read ALL first,and things are to go easy.

GOLD Pic you need to purchase the kit to obtain the programed PIC>

Best Bet would be to start small , get smart and move up.

VLF is more complicated then say a PI unit, with exception of timing circuits. VLF needs best parts, Low Noise, to obtain phase change detection differences.

What do you intend hunting? Water, Coins, Gold?

I forgot an important parameter, I have good concept about PIC programming in assembler (for me, good concept = read a code and understand it !). I can also write it. At this type, I an learning Basis programming for MikroBasicPro.

I cannot suggest you make Stuart's ones... now are really old... probably best PI introduction is by Hammerhead , you have everything , any detail explained and it will work for sure even if you have no experience in md contruction.

I don't suggest you try one VLF as first project: are complicated at first... and you must have some special skills (like good scope reading ability) before seriously try one of them.

I mean, you can also try VLF but many people find disappointing as first project cause of complicate stuff involved. PIs are, generally speaking, more linear and easy approach... at least simple ones.

You can make HH and try it inland or (best) at beach/rivers... it's not the best for inland (as many PIs) but it's simple and if you look for e.g. nuggets in sand of rivers and the like could be just right for you as starting project.

As VLF project (I suggest you'll try as second attempt) I suggest TGS light version... pcb by Ivconic, it's really good vlf by tesoro with removed the noisy parts.

Consider also... that simple PIs have no discrimination... so you'll dig much iron/steel and so trash. Be prepared for that... in sand/beach is not a big issue... you move easy the sand and so find easy the targets... see them in seconds... and so it's worth also with no disc.

In inland search things are quite different: disc make you save work and efforts and concentrate on valuable stuff... non-ferrous only at least.
Of course the exception, if you're interested in relics also iron could be interesting for you.

For VLF, I think TGS mean Tesoro Golden Sabre ? Right ?
