Studied PLL from Wikipedia. Seems to be very useful method. I think that now I understand why/how auto ground balancing works in my Surfmaster. Solving the abbreviation helped to solve another black spot from the schematics. Superb.

I found term PLL from forum header among with IB, VLF and others. What kind of det is described by term PLL?

IB = Induction Balance (the way the coils are balanced)
VLF = Very Low Frequency (the TX frequency range of modern metal detectors)

In general, metal detectors do not use PLLs in their circuitry. The only one I can recall is this one -> http://www.geotech1.com/cgi-bin/page...raus/index.dat
and it is not very sensitive.
