  • At least purchase one of the DSO150 kits. At $20.00 your going to be buying more in parts cost then you would for one of those. I've assembled two so far. Only takes like a hour or two out of the box to have a Decent Single Channel Scope. Once you have a taste of what a O scope has to offer you'll be looking for a better one.

    • I dont think that i can find a damaged 7808 when i connect something to an oscilloscope.
      Or is it different?

      • LOL, A O Scope can do everything a DVM can do and more. Not only will it tell you the voltage, YOU CAN SEE what that voltage is doing.

        • Ah , Ok. Like i said im a newbie.
          I will think about it.

There have been some recent upgrades so make sure you are buying Original JYE Tech DSO-SHELL DSO150 15001K DIY Digital Oscilloscope Kit With Housing
the new pcb has slots so you can reach the trimmers

The new main board PCB version is 109-15000-00E

The new analog board PCB version is 109-15001-00E

            Firmware upgraded to version 113-1501-110

I was buy big old crt nos oscope just to make sure my tgsl is working properly, until now idk the real function if i have problem with other board
I hope i can learn something from BKY trouble.

              • The DSO 150 I just got going a month or so ago is loaded with Rev: 064. Works fine. When ordering the dang thing I ended up with Two on the order and didn't realize until it was too late to turn one off. Now I have a Spare kit. I needed a new unit to replace my original . The first unit got dropped about three too many times. Eaaa!

                Version
                Revision History
                113-15001-110
                [ 2017.12.05 ]
Added new feature of outputting serial waveform data through J5 as texts. The data can be stored as CSV file and displayed on PC with help software like EXCEL or Gnuplot. See example . To send waveform data press buttons ADJ and V/DIV simultaneously. The last displayed waveform prior to pressing the buttons will be sent.
Significantly improved the operation of rotary encoder.
Improved trigger performance under 20us and 10us timebase settings.
The baud rate of serial port was changed to 115200bps.
                Added readout for trigger level.
Fixed a bug in trigger processing algorithm.
                113-15001-064
                [ 2017.09.05 ]
Fixed a bug in trigger level setting when the button [TRIGGER] is hold down for 3 seconds.
                113-15001-062
                [ 2017.08.05 ]
Fixed a bug that caused freqency measurement error (did not display frequency, cycle, etc when amplitude is low)

                • My TGSL works again. Problem was that the 7808 was damaged.

                  Thank you Guys!

                  • Hello again,

I want to make a new coil using a soundcard oscilloscope. Where do i need to connect the probes?
Directly at the tx and rx connectors? Or somewhere else?
Does it work with a soundcard oscilloscope?

I already have built a curcuit to lower the voltage.

I tried using soundcard oscilloscope for VLFs only once.

As it is sound card, it usually work only up to 20kHz. Resolution was terrible. Unusable.

As we said to you many times, please buy at least DSO or similar kit. It is cheap and has very good resolution for VLF frequencies.

As a Guru, you definitely must have oscilloscope

                      • I have spent now over 200 Euro for the parts of my TGSL. I dont want to spend more.
I saw in a thread here in the forum that one person used a soundcard oscilloscope to null his coil.

I can buy a way better metal detector for 250 dollar. imho.

20khz is ok for TGSL EDU or not?

                        I bought a LC-Meter btw. :-D

Do you think its not possible to null the coils with the soundcard?

Well DMM is much better then sound card scope. Maybe I have some crappy soundcard. But since I bought DSO and later old analog dual channel oscilloscope (up to 100MHz), I am very happy that I do not need to bother with solutions like you do...

Anyway with DMM and soundcard is not possible to control phase shift.

If you do this for saving money, buy comercial detector and save your and our time please

20kHz is highest freq that sound card usualy produce, quality is poor. When you want to MEASURE AND SEE signal with 14,5kHz (TGSL) you should have 200kHz scope. And you will have only 10 samples per wavelenght.. not much anyway.

                            Why not?

I build it for myself because im interested in it and i also want to save a bit of money. But im not an enthusiast like you and i think i will build maybe one more metal detector and then i wont need my oscilloscope anymore.

I still ned an answer to my question with the connectors. I want to try it and then i will see.
If it doesnt work then i will use my Multimeter or i will buy a dso and sell it after that but i saw that the dso are only 1 channel oscilloscopes.

I think i will need 2 channel for it.

Can i see the 20 degree lagging?

                            • G'day.
Have you considered at buying a commercial coil, that's what I did for my TGSL.
Got a Detech 13" ultimate coil and works fantastic. Just had to change the plug as it is hard to find a matching socket.

                              Happy hunting.

                              • Yes, but its too late now and i want to make a very light one.
I have bought two enclosures from bulgaria and microballoons and i hope i can make it 300-350 grams.
I have also planned graphite shielding instead of aluminium foil.

I saw that the detech coil has 600g which is too heavy for me.
