Actually I use my test set made out of silicon tube and coil on the end made from 160 turns copper wire. the winding is 20 cm away from detector coil. The TX field is measured via oscilloscope Vpp but the RX sen. is estimated by adding variable pot as load to the winding. The higher resistance then better sensitivity. Works for me to check if getting better or worst.

Standards - How to measure?

I suggetsed something similar to this a while back but nobody else seemed interested. Surely it would be extremely advantageous for us all to be able to make accurate measurements using a controlled set of variables for comparison of our machines???

Sure but some guys may think how far dya take the science!
Being able to see a signal on a scope may not predictably translate to a beep on a coin in soil
It sounds too hard this.
Reasons it may not fly could be....
1) Size of pick up coil would have to relate to coil dia and shape being assessed.
2) Coil turns would need altering for different frequency machines - to keep results between machines like for like..
Nice idea for fault finding a unit though.
