  • Help with my Compass Challenger X-80

I've looked everywhere for a manual but no luck, yet. Would like to find an uploaded one that I can download. Or maybe someone can help me who knows how to use it.
    Thanks

    I can help you...

Okay, I do not have a manual for you, but I know the detector, and can answer your questions. I do have a preliminary report on the Compass X70 machine, which is close to the X80. There were also X100 and X200 machines, and other than the X200, I have used them all.

So what do you want to know?

The info that I have is on setting the ground balance. From there I have no info. For instance, how to discriminate, speed of swing, various settings of sensitivity and metal settings.
This has been talked about as a good detector, just need some help.
      Thankyou

I've already cleaned all the pots, which were 'scratchy' sounding. That really improved the sensitivity. Very clean sound now

Okay, I do not have time to write a book, I can answer an specific question though, so I will at first, post this file, and it should give you some information that you can read and digest. I always searched at maximum sensitivity, and if you get a lot of noise, then the sensitivity is too sensitive for the ground you are covering. I am presuming that you ground balanced, or that when you walked away a bit, the ground mineralization changed considerably from the ground area where you did your ground balance. Soil mineralization changes as you walk around the land.

(okay, it would not accept my file attachment, so I will have to send it to your at your email address. If you do not get it, it is because there was no email addressed to send it to. Let me know if you received it.)

Also, when I search, unless there is so much trash, I like to search without discrimination, as I know from many many years of searching, since 1973, that if you turn the discrimination upward, you start diminishing the ability of the detector to see smaller deeply buried targets. So I search for LOUD, SOLID TARGETS. And I dig all of those targets. And doing that, I will find more gold and silver, over time, by digging all loud, solid targets. Try it, it works.

Discrimination is the lazy person's detector, unless the ground is so full of trash, that you absolutely must use discrimination, or your hands and wrists and knees are so tired and sore, from too much digging, and the day is almost over, then you can use discrimination and give you tired out body a rest for the remainder of the day....
