  • Jeohunter - Visual Ground Scanner

Yesterday arrived my brand new Jeohunter - the competitor of Nokta Golden King - but costs 2500 Dollars less and has almost the same features:

    http://www.makrodedektor.com/eng/urun_alt.asp?c_id=373

Til now I hadn't time for tests but they will start soon and I can give you all the important details if you're interrested. Greetz.

    First test results:

    pro:

    - Extremly sensitive and easy to use

    - 2cm silver ring (only 1mm thin and very light) at 25cm with alot of metal stuff in the room.

    - easy ground scanning with directly grafic display

    - 30x45cm coil really not that heavy and broad search range (around 30cm in lengh by 80% power - coil overlapping on search)

    - gold detection on display even with very small objects

    - auto ground neutralizing

    - deeper sound on cavity and brighter on metals

    - sound can switched off - searching just by 4 different very fast responding display-meters

    - good discrimination of very near large iron objects

    - good iron vs. valuable metal displaying

    - very fast boot up (20sec complete with ground effect elimination) and no problem to switch off whenever you like

    - easy cleanable push buttons under plain plastic surface

    - nice and practical black bag

    - as good as no drifting

    - possibility to find much deeper treasures lying on the ground of a mine, tomb, cave or whatever! (metal objects out of given search-range - don't underestimate this possibility!!!)

    - looks cool and has a good colour (but thats a question of personal taste)

    - 2 years warranty and good support in my country

    - possibility attaching a 20x30cm Coil for smaller objects (nuggets on the ground etc.)

    - 20 scan 3D pictures can saved internally

    - scanning the ground with visual recognition of large objects - special important if they have the shape of a bomb or mine!

    - you can sweep much slower over the ground as with motion detectors

    - really a broadband-detector from very small to very large and very near to very far away

    - Second Hand Price only ca. 1500 Euro in Turkey/Istanbul

    - Price: ca. 3300 Euros (4500 Dollars) - that's alot less than Golden King but of course still too expensive for "mainstream"

    contra:

    - Price: ca. 3300 Euros (4500 Dollars) - that's alot money compared with relatively good Metaldetectors you can get already for 200 Dollars

    - Lith.Ion. Batt Life just 3!?-5h (but there's a connector cable so evtl. you can built and attach your own akku pak)

    - perhaps not capable of displaying the real shape of an
object - but i have to test this first - perhaps somebody here knows more about this topic

    - Soundlevel 1 of 10 still a little bit too loud

    - handbook is written in not always the best understandable english

    - on high sensitivity sometimes recognises even missing of human body as cavity - if you go a bit away from detector (but easy manual adjustable)

    - no discrimination adjustment on every level you like at the moment (just iron or not iron - at least i haven't found that adjustment yet)

    - no USB or RS232 connection for data-transfer or easy firmware update by PC

Hope that overview wasn't to confusing and helps.
I'm just a normal buyer and not in contact with the producers or company. My other detector is a Fisher 1266-X, oldie but still goldie!

In the next tests i will bury some stuff in the ground and will try to find out more about target size and depth measuring.

If you have questions or want me to try something out, just tell me!

Great psychedelic clip! And I loved Tetris, play on Gameboy Level 9-Heart (Level 19!) High 3 - eliminate 25 rows.

        btw. Russia: www.svetastar.ru

Yeah - versus is cool - I write long pro-contra lists if i have important decisions to make!

But back to business - Practise Test was done after eliminating all metal stuff on that garage rubbish-sand-hill for 3 hours... - even found a small old digital watch.

        Test-Report #2:

        Pro:

        - finds very small silver ring (same ring as before) buried under 10cm mineralized sand

        - no problem that there was a very large iron-object nearby

        - only very few sensitivity-loss at "no iron"-Discrimination

        - calculates and displays how deep and large an object is if you enter the vertical and horizontal range in cm from where the signal starts (left >--cm--< right and up >--cm--< down

        - works good even under 0 Degrees Celsius (when water freezes - it's cold out there in that garage room...)

        - best signal shown on "vertical range" directly in the middle of the coil

        - autoadjustment of coils - afaik it can work with three different sizes: 20x30, 30x45 and 60x100cm

        - even can find roots (as cavity) - perhaps also old bones and skulls with diamond-eyes

        - signal tones are ear-friendly and don't sound too bad

        - scanning ground possibility immediatly by just pressing reset and keep pressing scan button as far as you scan - 3D grafical result directly after releasing the button

        - when digging you can let detector stand on the ground, not always lay on the ground

        - you will built up very strong bicep-muscles in no time with this detector - no gym or steroids needed!

        - comes with Hi-Fidelity-DJ-Earphones

        - you're looking like a pro if you're searching with this machine

        - gives toot toot toot signal if accu really is empty

        - the cable of the coil directly goes through the staff and is not winded around it

        - can find interresting mineral-stones!

        - perhaps more healthy than deep going PI-Detectors because of not so heavy electromagnetical radiation (but who does it really know how much radiation someone can bear - as long as its not strong microwave, ultraviolet or radioactive etc.)

        - seems to has really no problems at all with nearby electricity or high voltage lines

        - if correctly adjusted heavenly silent until you find something and no "crazy or undefinable noises" like with 1266-X or other detectors

        - the best alternative to the Golden King - you can save ca. the half of your precious money and get as good as the same features

        - a little curve always displays the short time ago metal or cavity encounters live on the screen and starts over if reached the right sides end

        Contra:

        - shows Battery empty (going down to 1 red line) already after 2h but goes on working without problems for additional 2,5 hours (sensitivity is slowly decreasing in the last 1,5 hours); perhaps it's not an original accu i've got there.

        - Colour-LCD Display not good to view from angle positions (from "above")

        - needed to change search-arms more often for resting the formerly one

        - not that easy to transport or take with you in backpack all the time

        - not so easy to pinpoint as with Fisher 1266-X

        - Accu plug had a very little loose-contact - I tought already the detector is gone - but for luck i found the culprit.

        - that 30x45cm coil is a little too big for woods or areas with alot stones and other stuff on the floor

        - valuable percentage display has more to do with size and weight of object instead of gold-/ silver-alloy-ratio

        - if you want to correct GEB you need first to switch on/off or chance sensitivity level

        - key-assignment a little bit confusing in the first time: Pressing key gets you into special mode, same key pressing again also gets you out of that mode (Ground, Setup, Depth, Record or delete Data & Scan results)

        - charging of fully depleted accu needs 10 hours (but I have to prove this first)

        - the deeper a detector goes, the more work you could have or get... - almost comparable with oldtimer cars.

Have to correct 3 contra points:

          - Accu takes 8,5 and not 10h for loading fully

          - Accu lasts just 4h because perhaps of low temperature (at around ~ plus 5° Celsius Value)

          - in the manual is written you can adjust Ground (GEB) all the time, but because of complexity I missed this point yet. But i will check this soon.

          Pro:

          - With right male plug and holder you can built your own reserve-accu-pack easily!

You can connect a longer cable to the fitting plug and even then put the twelve 1,2 Volts 2.700 to 3.000 NiMH Mignon Accus into your pocket if temperature outside is cold. No problem, because Computer-Display-unit is near your body anyway.

I'm having some plastic holders already which can take 4 or 8 Batteries (output up to 12 Volts DC if using 1.5V batteries - at best alkalines) so I could connect them. But of course a 12x holder with strong recharge-able accu's would pay off in the end, if you use the detector more often.

          - You don't have to order that great allround-machine in Turkey if you think thats problematically!
Just send me a privat message and I'll tell you a very good internet-shop-alternative in Austria! Perhaps you can also get "nuggets" there... Or you can wait until I've given you all the test details I will make in the future.

          - It does not use 9V Blocks! Shure, they're lighter-weight - but I don't like them very much. Empty in no time, especially the 7,2 Accus, and very expensive. That wasn't the best idea of new Fisher Company changing to those "bad blocks". Weight-Comfort ok, but not on cost of money-waste and low power batteries. That's why I love my old 1266-X - it runs with 8 Mignon Batteries or even eight 1,2 Volt Accus!

            Pro:
            - Auto-/Manual- GEB-adjusting is accessable all the time without switch off or raising sensitivity level first - GEB is re-adjustable in a few seconds

            - very stable software - so far not a single bug or hang-up!

            Contra:
            - with iron-detection switched on it shows nail 10cm if holded vertically near coil correct as iron - but horizontally as cavity

            - no ultra-bright on-off switchable LED-Lights directly integrated into the search-coil (but there's no detector using coils with this practical feature yet, pinpointers only!)

            - no manual in german language - but I'll write this soon!

              Hi Funfinder

"great allround-machine" before test end, so nothing of contra?

What is your "shop-alternative" commission in this serial promotion?

                  another pro:
on real good GEB it detected yesterday my selffound Emerald-on a Silver-Ring from ca. 45-50cm! And this with alot metal stuff 1-2 meters around the detector.

(btw. I would have prefered if the smaller search-coil (25x35cm) would be standard or already within the package. It's in the new JeoRadar Package of Turkey and will find smaller objects even better.)

The best solution of course would be a little color LCD Display directly integrated into the Detector-Holder-Unit. Would be more convenient if the minimizing of computer-parts and high-power Accus can make it possible sometimes.

At least the Jeohunters Solution is better than taking a Laptop to searching all the time - but thats just imho.

This has nothing to do with promotion but with personal view of things. Take the pro and con's and give them your own values. Take it or leave it as always in life, but respect my autentic description of personal views and most as possible objective information.

I've even written to the reseller that I'm just 85% satisfied - but that would be 90% if the Accus would last longer and the price is lower. But look at some "computerized"-magnetometers - they can cost you 15.000 Dollars! Thats all because new technology Metal-Detectors aren't mass-production and often expensive engineering-projects - if we want to ignore the chinese ones, and I'm shure we will.

                  @ michael
Before I bought the Jeohunter I did read all the posts about the Nokta here and everywhere! One big advantage is grafical display of cavity - at least for me.

Nokta has better grafics and claims it goes deeper but the price is absolutly not acceptable. Jeohunter is big concurrence of Nokta in Turkey and perhaps that's the reason why even Kellyco doesn't (is allowed to) sell it.

                  @ All:
Yesterday I did translate the sometimes hard understoudable Jeohunter's english-manual into german but with much clearer descriptions. It's in Richtextformat (rtf) and if you want to take a look at it or like to translate it with google into your home-language, please drop me a message.

                    Dear Funfinder

It not seems to me so. Your approach to test and during test was balasted by prior conviction that your new computerised toy is great allround-machine.

Modern rafined magazines prepaid latent propaganda wideli use such PRO et CONTRA by which (if promotion was paid) under "contra" they find only some say 11,11% of dust on machines and maybe colours combination are inadequate to deceive buyers that reviews are something real and independed.

This mean not to respect potential buyers.

If I can not accept such propaganda, does not mean that I do not respect all afford made with its creation. In contrary it is interesting and informative to read, so you do a good job (although primarily for reseller). Only for clarification in case that one not know that readers know.

I wish you funny finding and much of objective test opinions.

@Fred: Carrying cases are very good as they are and primary out of interrest.

                          @WM6:
                          First let's define what's a "great allround-machine".
And what you understand of "computerized toy".

I'm not the type of guy who falls in love to a new "toy" only just bec' it has some blinkin' LEDs on it.

My very first hobby was metal-detecting - I had my 1st Detector already with 10 years and now I'm 38, so I have enough experience and knowledge what I'm talking about.

                          And I will tell you:
I wasn't very happy about the prices even simple metal-detectors like the White's AF 101 I've got at that time is so expensive - not talking about professional machines then.

For me personally "allround" is definded with many functions, versatile and fitting for at best all possible events.

If professional treasure hunters often using a whole "armada" of diff. MD its 'cause none of them are "really" allrounders - but have all their own special abilities and weak points.

Handling, depth, problems with ground, complicity (as with modern computerized MDs), power, discrimination issues, manufacturing quality, for very small (nuggets), large objects or even cavitys, tombs...

Almost the same as with cars or bikes - or even better, with the personal preffered partners in life, if someone likes or wants these at all.

btw. the person i bought it from is a passionate treasure-hunter by itself and has very successful hunters as friends who do this for 30 years. It's not just about profit or selling "bad stuff" only to make money.
And second: Arabic guys are very clever and interrested in electronics - I know this well from satellite-tech and other sources.

OK, money besides, what do you personally think are the worst drawbacks of such detectors like Jeohunter?

The "disturbing" cavity signals? The handling? Tell me.

And - because it's very important to this forum, I'm into building electronix, too. Soldered my first detector 15 years ago, made old psx programmable keycard-and analog 22khz sound bootable, saved old apple mac from 1986 from the trash by attaching modern monitor interfaces, build VHF/UHF-Antenna-Amps out of Sat-LNBs and more such things. I'm not a pro like some of you guys here *thats a true compliment!*, but I have a good standing and overwiew what counts.

If we both want come any further we have to discuss the most critical points first. Not about bags and such ****, but the essential and vital points.

I'm really shure, almost every MD producer in the world gives his best making the most intelligent, versatile and powerful machine he can make. At least because he wants to be proud of his electronical and tech. skills and likes attention, loves it if his MDs are highly respected and - shure - wants but also needs material success.

                          OK, your choice or turn.

May I give you example? Different sort of magnetometers, gradiometers etc. are very very good detecting machines. For geologist. Not for me. No matter of coulored display. For me (my way of hunting) this devices are unusable.

For Jeohunter it is enough to see it on promotional pictures and read som commercial and test was done. Full CONTRA. Coulored displaying toy with detecting capability of 10x cheaper usual or homebuild detector. But if you like it - enjoy.

Done test, you are welcome, but, please, do and publish it at once, and not in TV serial promotion manner. I am PRO test and CONTRA such promotion serial.

You are seeing ghosts, perhaps you're paranoid also!
I made pro contra tests as they developed.

                              @WM6
Very well, I can accept your view and I'm interrested in fair and as objective as possible tests, too.

Tests will start if I have removed every metal stuff in the garage-rooms earth and stones floor which's still is frozen sometimes. And much better tests will follow in spring.

But not so good's the term: "computerized toy".
Metal-detecting is hard work (besids kidsplay on the beach, maybe).
                              And second, more important:
95% of all modern MDs are already "computerized". They use ICs (intelligent resp. integrated circuits), displays, digital technique, logic parts and all such stuff.

A "non computerized MD" must not use micro-controllers, LCD-displays and all this stuff. Only coil(s), transistors, capacitors, inductors, condensers, resistors, diodes, poti's, wires, speaker, signallamp and batterie.

You don't like or need them, fine, but don't you think a magnetometer that shows what's under the ground on a 3D grafic is much better than one that only beeps?

Or compare it with 80's Nintendo black/white LCD-Handhelds and modern Playstation Portable. Both are "computerized", so your White's MDs.

btw. Is your White's Logo Signature no promotion at all? If not then it stills symbolizes that this is your fav. and shown often to people suggests them:

"Uhh, that brand must be something important or good."

And you're even using a superlative: "M6 is god.". You aren't fanatic?

My first MD was a White's, it worked well and they have for shure a good and long experience building MDs, like Fisher and others too.

You are serious that the White's M6 is really your absolute Top-Hit?!
Surfed to the White's homepage a few minutes ago and checked the M6 out.
Well, if that's MD what you like the most (btw. M6 is computerized!)...
I wouldn't say it's bad - but it's also no big fish, your M6 - and not comparable with the Jeohunter at all.
The standard coil is "mini" and only for smaller stuff and lower depths ok.
It's almost the same like my Fisher 1266-X I have already for 15 years, but mine has a larger coil.

                              White's eliminated cavity - OK.
Others eliminate iron 'cause they don't wanna find it.
And next buy apple cause they hate microsoft.

                              So what's left?
Your personal MD that fits best to your desires and needs. If you hate "computerized MDs" throw 'em away, but be careful that your White's isn't computerized, too.

So what's left is the question:
What "MD must have" factors really count. Get fair countervalue for the money, shure. Power, Quality, easy use, personal needed or wanted options, good service, extandable features (other coils).

And now? Finding the best personal compromise?

One big problem is the expensive electronic and development which results a "standard user" can't change his MD like his pants but have to stick with them for a more or longer time.
Because of that problem he can't compare all of them or is already biased and accustomed.

And the final reason simply is: ENVY! If someone has no money he hates those who can buy really expensive MDs and then makes their detectors down! Perhaps you have the money, but it's too much "computer".

At least: Tell me about that MD that's 10 times cheaper and same good as Jeohunter. Just wanna compare it fair.
