  • Metal Detecting Inside A Lode Mine Shaft

This summer I have gained entrance to major gold mine that was last worked about 35 to 40 years ago and known to produce pure gold even at depths which is rare.

I have a Whites MXT with a DD coil and a slightly unstable Gold Tracker MD20 and plan to go specimen hunting.

Does anyone on this forum have a better idea on ways to locate small gold specimens which will typically weigh 1/10 to 1/4 ounce in a hard rock mine?

    Gene,

I would say that if you could access to the tailings piles of the dredges that plied the rivers of Idaho, my dad worked on one between stints in the navy, you might come up with something. And if would be infinitely safer than a 40 yr. old mine shaft with rotten timbers and who knows what kind of bugs & critters.
