          A collection of coils,various sizes,tested an proven,in the ground!
various config. monos etc. fig8 an screened ,unscreened to suit conditions.as used in the Pulsemate detectors..Special Thanks to Bill Hays for all coil housings used, for detecting enthusiasts. at Hays Electronics. USA

Hi,twin main control pots offer tone/threshold an frequ.balance control
Ground balancing is rudimentary via this control an coil matching with the ground conditions.most coils in the range have shielding.some are fig8 anti interference wound for tough ground an emi rejection.
the main detector unit is of course a Pi,based on several designs an features microcontroller.Design of the schematics an proofing/layouts,prototyping manufacture of custom pcb was done thru Sesame Electronics, here in Australia.Towards one year of development was put in by Neville Hoffman an his team towards this.from Sesame.
                Good work Neville!
the PI unit can run 2 types of microcontroller programmed chips, one with programmed in conservative timings an delay.another with faster timing an delays for tougher conditions an more refined nugget hunting use in the bush. These Micros are done by another small developer group. These are plug in an swapable between uses, but not on the fly! the Code is locked on these an non operator reprogrammable.
Descrimination is only via the db cutoff for the Led signal level meter for metal targets only.ferrous an non ferrous display differently via the Led Signal meter,an judgement by the operator is still require to visually interpret this unfortunatetly.
unit has its own inbuilt speaker/piezo transducer.an 1/4 inch headphones jack.
several units have been made that feature inbuilt twin 9v mHi rechargeable batteries an a dc socket. twin supplies are required 2x9v one for drive electronics another for audio stage an Led signal level.
To date over a year of field use has been achieved in various conditions from the wet sands of beaches for coin an jewelry hunting etc to park and paddock use for relic hunting an coins,to pure bush gold nugget hunting.
Yes operators have found gold nuggets with these units, largest to date was only 9.9gram nugget in Mount Crawford region South Australia.but still significant!
As a nugget hunting Pi it still has its limitations ,especially on many sub gram nuggets.
This is after all though only version One of the unit,an ongoing development for version two is still taking place with feedback from several users from some local Club an individual users.
To date there are 5 units built an in the field by various users an 3 more near completion.
The overall aim here was to build a simple but effective local made Pi for general field use,by all with the minimum of operator controls to confuse users an under $1000 fully built price target. again for individual operators who crave having a simple custom made unit an club users, who may not want the large investment in a commercial made unit.
The challenge was to build this PI,an away from any commercial detractors,an negative thinkers.who dont wish for any competitive successes.usually from anybody.Especially here in Australia as many detractors are Fierce an unforgiving
It can be done still an the satisfaction is in the use.
Builds will be done as a semi kit form ,with main electronics module mostly pre built an cased and tested for general use. a standard 8 inch pi mono coil supplied .any other assembly can be the users responsibility. So some assembly Will be required
Addition prebuilt coils from a range are to be again pre ordered.
No requirement is made for any volume production an none will be undertaken.
Simply one off custom builds.for individuals an club use.
Hope this give some insight into what these Pulsemate Pi detectors are about.
                Regards Rov

Thanks Rov, but what about sensitivity and depth tests?

Hi WM6,Depth in Air test or Depth in Mineralised Soil?the percieved test will vary greatly as you know.If Im to suggest Tests an ranges in static Air test in the workshop,Somebody will say No.this mean nothing,Test in soil.
Best to say the performance is dependant on soil conditions,Test item,an how it is buried ,size an item type ferrous or non ferrous.the type an size of coil used determine greatly also the performance. with 8 inch mono unshielded, sensitivity is more significant with ability to detect BB lead shot within several inches.for large 18x14inch elliptical style this same lead BB shot is not detectable under any circumstance unless almost rubbed across face of coil.is is to be expected! This is similar to a wide range of commercial produced PI detectors.
By the way this Pulsemate PI will run a host of commercially manufactured coils easily via a simple 4pin to 5 pin adapter lead.
Tested to date have been Minelab commander in DD an mono 8 ,11 an 15inches,Coiltek 14inch elipticals,Coiltek18 mono.even a Garretts Infininium eliptical with a full plug replacement of course.also several C Scope PI coils. For your interest.
All with their differences in depth, sensitivity an Character when used,on the pulsemate machine. But they work,so the versitility is very functional an usefull ,for a wide variety of field use.
                    regards Rov

1 week ago I bought a Pulsemate 14"x18" Mono coil from eBay and decided to test it out on the beach on my Minelab GPX4500 detector. The machine remained silent after the first turn on stage. After I cycled the power the detector started but, canceled out the EMI and the ground, but the Treshold was unstable. After 10 minutes I decided to turn it off and again on and it shows me "coil current overload" message on the display and newer worked since.
My GPX 4500 works normally with any other coil. Do you have any idea Rov what is going on? Please help!
