  • Panorama images idea you might usefull

If you have old Air Photos of prospective area and want to try stitching them together or want to create panorama images i think this software is fantastic. Some of you may have old photos that this software could be of use. It's not free but it's not expensive either.

image of the software in use .. how i processed the image

This is what I was able to do with the software.
    >>taken from a post i made on autopano.net/en<<

We dug up 228, 30 year old low level aircraft photos covering a 7km by 2.5km area on a project I am working, in a desert in Namibia .. Ondundu
each images overlaps into the other images beside, below and above.
The chief geologist asked if i could do anything with these images and i said i would give it a shot.
I had one of the junior geologists scan each one but she did not scan them straight "TIA" this is Africa.
There are 228 images roughly 45 megabytes each.i cropped, resized ,staightened and color/brightness corrected each one because of the sun and the fading of the 30 year old photographs.
I minimized as much as i could the overlaps so i could minimize the Fisheye effect.
The hard part was the 3 week trial and error process trying to minimize the overlap but yet keep the accuracy of what
the air photo and what is on the ground true and completly accurate.
in other words once i geo-reference the final airphoto i should be able to click my mouse on the image on lets say a gold trench that is visible on the final photo using Geosoft Oasis Montaj, get the gps co-ordinate and then on using my handheld gps i should be able to get to the trench.

I then geo-referenced the jpg by figuring out the gps co-ordinate at each corner then using Geosoft i created a geo-referenced .tif file

I was able to get the Geo-referenced image to match what is on the ground with great accuracy.
Using this final image i was able to find trenches that we never knew existed and use this image to overlay my ground Geophysics on top of.
It was a fun exercise and i learned a lot and the image has proved to be of great use to our geologists.

Thumbnail Final Image Below resized of course as the real Final Image is 660 megabytes .. 228 photo images joined together into 1

    actual size is 39226 X 14785 .. 228 air photos stitched into 1

This is some of what i did with the images .My mag data,Drill Hole Locations and Arcview shapes of the bedding
