  • Garrett 1977 metal detector information

I am not going to post this, but if anyone wants a copy of an article that Charles Garrett wrote back in 1977, when he brought out his first Master Hunter VLF/TR discriminatior for 5.5Khz, and his first Groundhog VLF/TR discriminator 15.5Khz detectors, I will email it to you. I have no idea if the article is copyrighted, so will not post it for that reason.

It explains the advantages and disadvantages of various frequencies, why he picked what he picked, how the VLF works compared to how the TR works, the differences between the VLF and the TR, how the various speeds of return signals works, and so on.

Very informative to a researcher who wants to know things. I received this from Ray Smith of National Treasure Hunters League back in 1977, I was one of his dealers, and later was a dealer for Garrett for many years.

These early VLF/TR machines used 4 pin coils, later they changed just the Master Hunter seriest to 5 pin. And then various modifications and changes to later models. This even has copies of the sales brochures on the first new models specified above.

Although Garrett machines seem to no longer be on the cutting edge, Charles Garrett is one of the pioneers in ground cancelling metal detector technology.

The article puts "GCX" operation into simple terms and Melbeta's additional comments are 'right on'. I sure hope somebody can find the second installment to the article because it was just starting to get good.

Melbeta, what other good information do you have?? Maybe nobody else is interested, but I am.

          Hi Melbeta,

Thanks for sending me the article. The part that held most interest for
me is where Charles Garrett talks about deciding on a name for the VLF
detector. The technical parts are grossly over-simplified and even
          misleading, but interesting nontheless.

Melbeta,You have a stone only from the Garrett mountain.

not sure. Garrett is famous as a lover removing off marking on all IC's of PCB's. you wanna the secrets? all secrets are inaccessible for you. because you only see 'black color epoxy resin box inside'. oohh man... you certainly will get the huge amount of prostrange texts do not having schemotechniks' know-how. so WHO IS THE REAL SOURCE OF HARD INFORMATION FOR YOU NOW I must ask you? Garrett? White's? Fisher? Tesoro's son of the God? Melbeta? or unknown for you this guy KT315 with screwdriwer in hand, from Lithuania?...

think about. we do NOT need in the mountain, in the stone etc. because all these is only ZERO of info.
