  • Garrett Serial Numbers

    Greetings All !!!

Hopefully someone here can solve the mystery since two different folks at Garrett couldn't -

How do you decode the Garrett detector serial numbers? Specifically, for an ADS 7 (not a 7X), with the serial number: 2569-119, what is the year of manufacture and how do you know that?

As I said above, I called Garrett and two different folks in Customer Service couldn't tell me. Any help is greatly appreciated !!! Thanks in advance.

Pappydoodle, according a list posted by Homefire, model ADS7 was produced in 1984-1989:

I think may be -119 means month and year.

      Hi mikebg -
Yeah, I've seen Homefire's info, and as usual, he's always on top of things! I also found some information on another site forum that breaks down the info even more specifically -

"ADS 7 was made from 1984 to 1986, and those were made with the Deepseeker coils. Then in 1989 for one year they made the ADS 7 again and this time the ADS 7 had a transformer in it and took a Crossfire coil. Then in 1990 they came out with the Master Hunter 7X. So for one year they did make the ADS 7 with the Crossfire coil and not the Deepseeker coil."

The above quote was taken from a reply to coil questions and was provided by a person at Garrett !!!

Here's my problem - I have an ADS 7 I bought off the EvilBay. It came with three coils, all with five pin, female connectors. The coils have a Garrett sticker on them that says they're "Deepseeking" lightweight, foam filled, and waterproof." The "target center" indicator is not an "X" but more like a shooter's scope crosshair sight.

I thought like you, that the last three digits in the serial number were for the month/year - November/1989. If that's true, this detector should have a Crossfire coil, not any type of Deepseeker/Deepseeking coil. Maybe that's why it's not working properly. Regardless, when I called Garrett, two people told me that the detector was made in the 87-88 (???) time frame. I'm so freaking confused, I don't know where to turn. Some other info about the coils and this detector:

As I said, the coils that came with it are five pin, female connectors, the older Deepseeker coils are four pin, male connectors which won't work with my ADS 7. I hate to spend $50-$75 for a Crossfire coil if that first quote above is incorrect. Thanks for the help.

Pappydoodle, I posted in the section "Modifications" very efficient improvements tested in Garrett Marksman PB and ADS III. Despite your model is "younger", I think they are applicable for it too:
