  • White's Gold Master info

Hey der folkses I just purchased the detector mentioned above, the fella said it was a wall hanger, the coil doesn't look like it belongs. picture below.

I would like to rehab this old timer, does anybody have any info on this machine ie. proper coil and any other data. I'd rather try it first before spending a bazillion having White's do a rebuild.

    Many thanks,
    Dennis

I have the one that my father bought back in the 70’s it came with 2 coils a 6 and 11 inch. The gold master did not have any kind of discrimination feature, it found a lot of junk and I don’t remember finding any coins deeper than 2 to 3 inches with the small coil. I didn’t have much luck getting it to work again with the original parts so I gutted the box and 11 inch coil housing then installed a hammer head board in the box and 11 inch mono coil in the coil housing.

        Bobcat:

I got it and condition wise its not too bad, the to be expected scratches and scrapes but nothing major. I opened the battery door and what to my wondering should appear, but three batteries, a regular 9V, a 1.5V box battery and a 67.5 box battery and all I could think was WTF!! I got the batts. out and shined some light down the hole and the glint of glass twinkled back. Yup it has vacuum tubes (3 ea.) what a surprise that was.

So I went ahead and opened it up and three must have been a lucky number to the designer, 3 tubes, 3 vari. caps. (the large AL type) and 3 little transformers. I think there are more parts on the secondary borad than the primary. I contacted White's today and they are sending me a schematic so I can trouble shoot this old warrior. Homefire over on THunting suggested putting 8 9V batteries in series to take the place of the 67.5 and paralleling a couple of "D's" for the 1.5, they still make the 67.5 but at $50 bucks a pop thats a little rich for my wallet to handle.

        Stats as follows:

        White's Gold Master

        Mod. GMS 63

        Ser. No. A-1236

14 7/8" long (including knob on front)

        4" tall

        4 7/8 wide

6 controls (including one on front)

I think the coil might be 9½ or there
about as the 8½" hole is offset to
the front to allow for pole mount on
        rear of coil.

I'll keep you posted on how things go.

        Dennis
