  • How good is Surf p.i against original detector?

Can anyone comment on how good the Apberg/Silverdog Surf p.i detector compared to an original Whites Sufmaster p.i detector. How close is the schematic to the original design?

The original Surfmaster always gets good reports as a beach/underwater detector.

He indicated to me that it is similar to the orig. White's version in performance depending upon the quality of your search coil build.

Agree. And well tunned coil to circuit. It can be better than original.

Try to build coil in such way (about 33 turns):

        I ask the forum.
What is the maximum distance that detect a coin in air surf IP, what is the diameter of the coil?
        Thanks
        Jose

          Hi Jose,

be sure that Surf-PI is very good detector, but how good it will be in your hand, depend of your building skill. So your final DIY success regarding a coin detecting in air can be from say 10cm to 35cm with spiral coil diameter no more than 30cm.

Thank you for all your informed comments. I think I will be going with a spiral wound coil. I have some new ideas for housing this type of coil that I will share with you when I have built the kit from Silverdog.

I have been playing with the flat spiral coil calculator...very good!

Will be looking forward to what you come up with.
I'm going to try my hand at building a unit or two, ordered 3 boards.

I do have a Surfmaster PI Pro to judge the finished build against.
