  • Needle in a haystack made of needles...

    Hi All,

    This is my first post.

I am new to metal detectors and am trying to give myself a crash course from information I can find on the internet.

What I am trying to find out is whether a metal detector can detect a bar of silver amongst steel wreckage.

The silver bar could have a thin sheet of steel over it.

Does anyone know whether this is possible?

Many thanks for any help in answering this.

I'm not an expert, but I think this is a very difficult task for a metal detector.

I would get a good metal detector and try experiments in a similar environment. I guess you don't have a bar of silver (yet), but maybe you can get a pile of silver spoons or something to experiment with.

I think it would take practice to learn how to judge the signals you receive.

Short answer...no. A metal detector sees whats on the outside.
