  • i would like to do a PI detector but which ???

Hello, I want to make an homemade pulse induction detector.
I have some basic knowledge in electronics, and an oscilloscope in my possession.
could you point me to a functional model that includes PCB schematics, layout, detail of the head or frame.

thank you and sorry for my "English" I use google translation.

Have a look at the Projects section of Geotech, in particular look at the Hammerhead -> http://www.geotech1.com/cgi-bin/page...head/index.dat

Delta pulse (XR-71) and surf PI are also 2 nice projects known to be working well, with PCB´s.

          thanks fred ,where can i find xr71 doc's ?

Xr71 and deltapulse are the same detector, but if you search at "xr-71" you will find several threads about it ...

            Good luck.

go to on full list http://www.geotech1.com/cgi-bin/page...e=projects.dat
and then there open a section Hammerhead Carl Moreland.
you find all PCB schematics, layout, how do the coil.
remember Delta Pulse has not a description. it is no-name schematic, if you would get a problem nobody will help you. your chance is 50/50 to repeat the schematic working stable.

              good luck

thanks , yes ,hammerhead seems to be a good choice.

                and if i understand , upgradable ???

hammerhead can use an 1meters * 1 meters coils (for example ) ? or just "classic " coils ?

can i bought a kit of hammerhead ? or just PCB finish with drilling ?

yes, certainly, you can use 1*1 meters coil on Hammerhead - try find these threads in Hammerhead's related section of this forum.

kit - not, nobody offers kits here as I see. you can buy clear PCB's from silverdog, for example, for very good price.

And from kt315 too (SMD version), as far I know. I bought from both.

                      fromfrance,

I built the Hammerhead I (version C, option 1). Good beginning PI detector!

I'm waiting for warmer weather to use it, but I am happy with how well it works, by air testing coins, rings, etc.

                        thanks to all !

i'm decide to build the hammerhead , i want to use with a big search coil

but many questions are coming !

test phase describe into the doc's will be the same with a big search coil ?

for the moment , i'm trying to understand doc's ... with my poor english ...

i will do a new thread when the work begin !

thanks again to your help !

For testing / adjusting / tunning of detector better to use "normal" coil of about 20cm in diameter which can be easily positioned away from all metal parts in lab as bigger coil.

Then you try to get the same inductance for bigger coil. Some adaptation bigger coil to input circuit you can make by changing damping resistor (use scope, best to work outside on open air, away from power line).

Seriously, buy and build one of Silverdogs Surmaster PI kits, a simple coil of 11.5" diameter with three layers of seven turns (21 in total) will give EXCELLENT results!
