Remember the detector is looking for the DIFFERANCE when tuned.

      Not Absolutes!

If the Metal Bolt was there when Balance/Tuned what's the Difference?

It may change the shape of the Field a bit but??

A metal shaft would exaggerate the Field more I would think.

        This is not exactly correct.
Any metal close to the search coil will have eddy currents induced in it, and this includes a metal stem bolt or an aluminum stem. In this instance it will affect the point at which you can start sampling. In practice the aluminum stem will not be a problem, as it is inclined at an angle away from the coil, and the lower part of the stem is usually carbon fiber or plastic. But using a metal stem bolt will definitely cause problems. Try taping a small coin onto the coil and see what happens.

I would like to build a larger coil to surf pi. I tried to 1mx1m 8-turns-1.9ohm and diameter 700mm 14 turns-1.6ohm. the two coils recurrent wheezing occurs, pip ... pip ... pip ..... Does anyone help me solve this problem.

HOW DO YOU KEEP MOVING THAT 1 BY 1 METER.
ALSO CHECK JUR CIRCUIT AND SHIELD COILS COIL. REMEMBER SURMASTER PI MUST BE MOVING TO DETECT.
