  • DIY a detector

    G'day all
I hope to know if it is possible to DIY a
detector that can compare with a gp 3000 or one of a SD Series?
I am going to use it to prospect in mineralized ground.
Can anyone provide me with some advice if it is possible.

    Regards

    Albert

    Albert,

You don't mention anything about where you may be trying to use the detector or the size of gold you hope to find. Those issues are important.

Now, as a simple or general rule, the answer to your question as to whether you can build a PI that will compete with the SD or the GP series, the answer is no. At least, not without adding a form of ground balance, if the ground is bad.

I have used a non ground balancing PI in the US reasonably well but I had a DD coil on the detector and added a second (autotune) filter to reduce the ground signal. With this combination, I could hunt many locations and do quite well. Later I added a form of ground balancing and that made a big difference.

      Hi Reg.
Maybe he can try the GS4. I think that GS4 has GB.

It is too bad that no one made pc boards for the GS 4. With a few minor changes, the design could be simplified also. There is no need for sel 2 so that could be eliminated.

Also, the switch between modes could be nothing more than a toggle switch, as could the one between ground balance and no ground balance.

So, the multi position selector switch could be eliminated using the basic approach mentioned above.

          I agree with the modifications.
But i think that a guy from Russia made a pcb for SMD components.
If so, then its OK if there is the knowhow to solder the SMD components.

          Regards

            Hi Reg
I am going to prospect in West Australia. I think the ground there may be mineralized. my requirement is that any detector can find a lid of a coca cola bottle size metal buried 3 feets under the ground can do the job.
In addtion, can you tell more detail about your ground balancings device?

            Regards
