  • 1990 Garrett Master Hunter 7X, no sound! :(

Hey guys, I just joined the forum. Awesome. I like forums like this. I recently fixed my washer by using a forum with a good tech member. Saved me probably $200. Sweet.
Hope someone can help me here please.

I've got an old 1990 Master Hunter 7X Crossfire by Garrett. I turned it on yesterday with 6 fresh batteries, and.... NO SOUND! It worked fine the last time I used it 2 years ago. It seems to be working bc the needle moves.

I called Garrett and they would NOT give me the schematic to my unit! Told me to call back tomorrow when a tech named Ed Renner (SP?) was in. I will try a repair/dealer here in San Antonio and see if they will give me one.

I see Conan fixed his Garrett ADS on another thread (a little older than mine I think?) and it was the MC14011, IC circuit. Mine has a "14011B X933" 14 point IC circuit. I'm GUESSING that's the same/similar one? Please note: I have done NO testing and wouldn't even know how or where to start! Electronics moron here - but with potential! I see Big Daddy has a "IC 4011" but I don't know if that's the correct cross-referenced part. http://bigdaddy-enterprises.com/index.htm They have no contacts that I see. My next problem even if I get the part is replacing it. What am I getting into? Think I'd better get someone to do that for me.

P.S. - I noticed that my same model sold at a goodwill auction for $213 recently in 2011. Can't believe it went for that much. That's almost what i paid over 20 years ago. Is this thing a collector's item now??

    Thanks

In addition to some tech help, think I'll poke around and get some good detecting tips once I get er fixed!

Homefire, mine is the 7X. You are showing the 7. Mine has the "bell tone" toggle switch to the far left and a "auto/manual" toggle.

When I turn it on the needle goes all the way to the right and then goes to "1", then stops at 2. i believe that means it is working correctly according to the sticker on the unit.
