Old Subject-New Thought-pinpointer?

Hi Folks, I know we have had discusions on this before but I need to ask this. I need a pinpointer/ creavice hunting detector. What if I used a simple BFO circuite and built a 1" dia. probe on it with a short cable? Simple yes but how effective? Data on a 1" coil for a f between 120 and 200 KHz? could a small PI or TR unite be built that would work the same? Something "pocket" sized and easy to use. Anyone have any Idea's or simple schematics on this? Thanks,
