    hi carl-

have read your page on the "iron on" method for

making a pcb also some others at different web

    sites.

my query is have you had much trouble of misregister

when applying (xfer) the toner ?? does it slip around.

do you ridgidly attach pcb to table and also edge

of xfer film ?? and have you looked at/for any

    distortion of the film????

presently use positive etch resist with excellent

results--but have not tried this method yet,and

    think for the pcb's here-5mil traces some--between

.1 center chips ????????? not to rebuke that which

works (photo) but to investigate other methods...

(remember those resist pens) your comments would

    be welcome.

No, actually I place the film on the board and gently apply the iron (I use a variable temp monokote iron) in the center. This sticks the film down. I then gently move the iron out from the center to all the edges making sure that I don't drag it too hard so it does not try to "pull" the film. Once I have all of the film tacked down I just go over it very thoroughly with the iron.

Again, no - I just lay the board on a table, lay the film on the board, carefully hold it in place with my fingers, and go. I don't know how much the film distorts when you iron it. It seems to be pretty stable, and the area within a DIP footprint is dead on the money. As long as this is the case, I can tolerate a little distortion over the entire board if it does so, unless I'm trying to do a double-sided.

Tell you what, Rick - email me a postal address and I will send you a couple of films for my mag PCB, essentially what you saw in the report. You can try one out for yourself and see if you like.
