  • If the coil housing has even a tiny amount of flexure this can be cause.

If the coax feed is loose on stem this can be cause.

If stem has flex this also can be cause.

        • Ok thank you.
I get the slow (375k) and fast (220k) but what is the boost I see on the detectors with this mod?
          Thanks

          • Hello all
I am thinking about using a series of leds for my vdi as my minimal design will not allow for the standard vid lcd I may also incorporate a led digit display .
Using these I should get the same readout but be able arrange it in any fashion that suits.
            Thorghts?

              • I found i could reduce the background chatter on my idx by adding decouplers to U3 - this enabled me to reduce the detect threshold and hence trip at lower level - which gave more air test distance.

I used 0.22uF caps on pin4 and 11 to gnd on pcb edge.

Found some bits of a Lancaster bomber today, and a roman brooch -- 2000 years of history -- 150yds apart.

                • Ok time to order a decent sized pic then.
I will give your decoupling caps ago .

                    • Yea I have heard about that one and the keys but there beyond rare finds and I love the idea of finding some thing that is really not ment to be there but with only the one been found I am more inclined to think it was placed/lost by someone in recent times.

Many members have bought both the TGSL and IDX kits from Silverdog, and successfully constructed detectors that work. The problem is not with the kit or the information supplied. In fact, the TGSL design is one of the best documented VLF designs on Geotech. However, you must have a reasonable knowledge of electronics and some half decent test equipment. Although it is possible to build the TGSL without an oscilloscope (if you're very lucky, a careful constructor, and use a commercial coil) the chances are you will encounter many problems. Without the necessary knowledge and test equipment it is not an easy task.

                          • The kits are fine, unless you donĀ“t have some electronics knolegments to apply

I had brougth lots of kints form silverdog and all of them works 100%. Sometimes you may found some minor details that can be solve without any troubles, so i sudgest you to read the schematic and for shure you will find where are your errors.
For the money that cost each kit, you have a shiper way to get a 100% functional detector. Keep trying , be patient and you will get succes.
                            Regards
