  • Don't use a doughnut shaped piece of ferrite these fail

Done wave too close to the coil a 2" is enough.

If it almost works but you run out of adjustment on the POT. It will be the RX capacitor or null that will need adjusting

          • may be but i forget ground balance using pinpoint method
i balance ground in disc mode by
ferrite as soon as i hear cracking sound it accept both silver and zinc and go to hunt

i think idx is not good in ground balance in all metal non motion mode ( pin point )

may be the coil because it is home made

but i acheive 33 cm under ground ( high mineralization red colored ) for 1 euro with good sound .

                • Has anyone tried large zinc on a working detector. Not the sort of thing I have lying about. Large iron plough (plow) shear has a bit of discrimination (broken sound) even with the disc on 0 and nails still sound fine.

Would not be suprised if large zinc did not overload the detector also but can't test.

Balance the machine over the ground your hunting. The same as any othe manual geb machine

                    Leave it in Disc.

                    • Hello all, i just finished first version of idx from page 1, but when i plug detector into battery, i have constant weird beeeep and mpsa 13 is very hot after 4 - 5 sec. Does anyone know what can be problem? Btw, no difference with or without the coil... Thank's

Nothing should get hot or even warm. Not much to go on. Make sure everything is place the right way round. No shorts and the voltages are correct. Post some nice photos would help.

also check the voltage pin 1 and 7 of U5 should be just under 3V

                          • Your detector work on pinpoint mode so there is brocken or not connecting track in board also check 4066

Seems the all voltages are ok, checked twice. In my pcb, i reversed collector and base pins, cause on board is shown like ECB pinout, like i write before, that's very first version of idx from page 1. Today i will post pictures.

                              • I have been using my IDX for a couple of years and very pleased with it.

Not sure if I have a slight error or if it needs a slight tweak to improve it.

If I turn the threshold down about 10 degrees the sound in disc mode is much sharper and last for a longer distance before it starts to distort but PinPoint mode obviously does not work unless I turn it back up. Which is what I am doing at the moment.

Can someone confirm this with their detector it only really noticeable on tiny targets like a silver sixpence on its edge. If you pass it in font of the coil as if testing for maximum depth. Now try it with the threshold turned on mine with the threshold where it should be the sound starts good then changes to a grunt towards maximum depth. With it turn down the the sound just fades. Both have the same depth but with it turned down the last few percent are still dig targets gut not with the threshold at its proper setting

Also is there a way to quieten the very loudest sounds without loosing the faint ones. On field with a lot of plough shear my ears are buzzing at the end of the day LOL
