  • Can somebody show me connections for 2 tones pcb?
I have idx version with 3n9 capacitor and phase trimer, not last ver with 3n3 and without phase trimer.

These are the images that I can provide.
manufactured according to the coil on the forum.

Which two tone did you make there are several versions and they connect differently.

I tried to cut bridge near mpsa13, connections are several time checked, but there is some weird buzzz sound when board is attached.

You only have to cut the bridge if you want to add a switch

try winding the coils separately, wind tx then wrap it and shield it, wind rx and wrap and shield, then overlap the coils and try nulling them, and make sure your two shields are isolated, how they are wound on your rig they may be interfering with each other, building these coils is quite hard so follow successful build plans and dont deviate.
don bowers has good info on building coils there are other good guides, try searching both COILS and TOOLS AND TECHNIQUES.
                GOOD LUCK.

seriously this two tone working on this connection ?

                  • I did not make the two tone and haven't checked but it was the connections that were posted when people were interested in the two tone. The reason the switch was added was so you could disable it and use the detector as normal as the two tones don't like wet or long grass. You will obviously have to tap the power lines as well.

Two tone faded out for quite awhile as it disadvantages in stability out weighed any benefit. After all if you use minimum disc and high impedance headphones you can tell the sharp crack of iron compared to the soft rounded tone of none ferrous.

I will have to look back at the two tone properly as one version you had to remove a transistor

                    • Just a quick question:
Does RX gnd goes together with shield in search head?
I ask this cause i have fade out tone on my idx.

For a DD insulate the RX and TX at the crossover points. Both shield tap wires then go to the cable ground and connect to the supplied GND hole on the PCB this is all that's needed. The coil connector may or may not need to be grounded as to what type of construction the connector project box are made from. (metal plastic is the PCB insulated from the box)

For testing on the bench a shield is not required and can be disconnected for testing but moving your hand near the coil may cause chatter.

You can very quickly make a good shield for testing. Cut a circle of card and stick a small piece of copper to it. Solder a lead to it. Mix some PVA glue and graphite to a toothpastes consistency and paint it on. Top comes out at 10K per square but where it settles at the bottom its near 1K per square. You place your windings on top of it great for testing windings.

You can even rub the insides of an old carbon battery on some card and stick some bare wire to it as a temporary test.

On the bench the RX kept separate or connect to shield in the head makes little difference

in the field I found separate better

Thank's Koala, but did u have fading out tone when moving metal to coil? Do BC517 make difference in tone? I don't like fade out tones, i asked this cause in my mind something is wrong with coil connection's. In field, idx is pretty stable, no problem with that. Also, i have Classic 3, which is near the same like idx, but tone is full and sharp.

Btw, all my wires in search head are separate from each other.

                            • Not quite sure what you mean by "fade out tone"

Going to guess its in all metal mode and you have a threshold tone that goes quiet as metal is passed over the coil.

Try swapping the RX wires over.

Also, i dont have switch ON beep.

I mean, when i swing coin from 0 to 30 cm tone is going silent near end of detection. When distance is 10 cm, sound is clear and sharp. I saw many idx on yt that they have sharp tone from begining to end of detection. Constant strength sound.
