Didn't make the VDI or the 2tone


Used the original board from page 1 as my detector for 2 years.


Used good quality headphones and very little discrimination. As long as you don't have the threshold too high there is a lot of feedback from the sound. Quality, sharpness, length and loudness.

Never felt the need to add the 2tone. Although I feel the VDI would have been handy on some fields.


Built both DD and concentric coils both work fine in the house. In the field I much preferred the concentric. Not quite sue why. Just seemed more accurate. Running low discrimination less pops and cracks and less iron dug. Might be psychological as a bit of success early on with a coil means you are more likely to use it.

how can i adjust frequency on IDX PRO ? my TX has 6079hz output and doesnt see silver items. also 1 euro is 20cm distance.?

Hi, you can change the frequency of Tx with the capacitor which is connected to the coil 1uF. Change it to a smaller cap 800-900nF and the frequency will rise. You must achive 6.59kHz, you have phase off thats why you cant detect silver.

Frequency doesn't make a difference. At the standard 6.5khz ish it will still pick up a silver ring at 35 cm

I would guess your phase is out on your coil. Try adjusting the RX capacitor.

actually i am newbie for handmade coil. (i bought it from forum for 40$) so i need to buy second hand maxima 1500 white's coil ? its 100$... if i use maxima 1500 orginal white's coil it will work 6.59khz ? and see all metals ??

Work same like 950 BlueMax, just hit litle deeper and more ground coverage.

Is it the white Whites one with 4B stamped into one of the lugs ?

in picture its handmade coil. i tested other coils also and its interesting machine that changes TX frequency by coil. ?? so we cant adjust TX frequency from board ?

Change the TX capacitor in coil changes the frequency. Also changes the phase so the RX capacitor might need changing also.

Just tried idx with Fisher F2 sniper coil, all i can say it's working very good, coin's from 4 to 10 inches, disc and and geb also is very, very good.
Pin 1 and 2 is RX,
3 and 4 is TX,
pin 5 is shield,
RX tank is 4,7n
TX is from 47 to 68.

Very nice work! Finally something VLF related, not just PI project. Since Ivconic left the forum there in not much activity in VLF project related topics!

This is not yet tested outdoor cause shaft is not finished, but should be good on real soil cause no reaction to hotrock, roman mineralised brick, ceramic and ferrite rod.
Also, this coil i found very cheap, 10 euro's.
Good combination in highly iron infested and trashy area's.

Idx is very tolerant about coil's, have another one pcb with Tesoro Tejon (SEF Detech Ultimate) 13" coil which is realy deep, more than 14" for coin's, exelent work trough mineralised brick.
Can also work with Minelab TS 1000 coil for Musketeer, my friend using idx with TS 800 coil (19 cm) but can't remember rx and tx capacitor tank.

For Tejon coil TX tank is about 330N, for RX from 10 to 12N.
Soon i will make fast video with Tejon coil.
