The pinpoint tone is a sign that the detector is working, at least partially.(The pinpoint feature is an all metal channel) and since you put coils with wrong inductance and most likely unbalanced, then the pinpointer will sing)
Try winding the Tx coil first as its inductance is small and will not use up much wire. You can connect the 7mH coil to the reciever but you must calculate a parallel tune capacitor for a RX resonance of 6.59kHz.
Then you can balance these coils on scope and see if the circuit is working. At least you should be able to verify that the detector circuit is detecting a target. Once this is certain, you can then proceed to make the proper RX coil.
