    • silverdog. Do you have that as a .lay or eagle file? P.S. I did buy a pcb from you. I wanted to see if I can route one with my cnc too. Thanks

          • This looks great, Just a question about coils, i am on a learning curve here so please just tolerate me, ! lol. I have a garrett ace 250 (hate it) i would love to have something else but would love to convert the ace. like build this project and mount it on the garrett stem but use the stem and coil from the garrett. is this possible ? using the garrett standard coil to connect to this idx-pro ?

if not, is there any project that can use the garrett coil ?

            Thanks in advance

                  • Thanks Don

I was not explicit enough ...

I found the dimensional and electrical characteristics of the TX and RX coils but do not recall if anyone had said it was some kind of special provision (such as concentric or double D, or ...?

It would be interesting also to disclose here a practical method of construction at home (winding) of this set of coils for the IDX PRO ...

                    • But that was written .....
The same as for the DD coil TGSL. only with the values for the IDX.

                          Hi,
Schatztaucher has made a great post with his links. In the bottom link are Don's beautifully written TGSL parts 1 & 2 (hopefully the latest versions) and he describes a great method of making double D coils. I have used it, it works well......
                          Download and read through them.
                          regards
                          Andy

                          • Thanks for the information Schatztaucher and also Der_fisherman.

I really do not know what had been published regarding the TGSL because I had concentrated on what was known all about the IDX Pro I'm building.
My enterior was doubt on the physical configuration of the arrangement of coils.
Out of curiosity: Years ago I built several units of the type VLF MD who used three concentric coils, where the TX, an inner and outer were linked with phase inversion, and the RX buffer was positioned to obtain the null.
(These detectors were effective in early detection of iron nails embedded in pine logs before they reached the sawmill. These nails are used to set the pots to collect the resin in living pine trees).

Does anyone here tried to make a system like this with three windings?

                            ----
I noticed the layout of the PCB IDX PRO that the general area of GND tracks are small (and of VCC too) the ground plane have the same width (or near) as those lines that carry signals.
I changed the dimensions of these tracks on my board because I consider a interestingly change the GND lines (which are a very important reference zone relating to all the other circuit) so need to be in a larger area and with that prevent some losses due to this electrial weak zone a flow through part of signals ...

                              • Both versions are correct. When connecting the PCB 2-tone to PCB metal detector, you have to remove the R55 on the PCB of the detector.
