• BTW, anyone interested in analogue "VDI" with dial instrument? A Toltec schematic gave me an idea. My reasoning is that it would use very little current and a dial is a dial regardless of sunlight.

How much current does the VDI use on average?

Is this circut will by ok?, what about corect values of all elments
THe schematic you have attached should work just fine for testing resonance of the RX coil.tI double checked my phasing. I scoped the hot end of the Tx coil for Channel 1 and Pin 6 of U1 for Channel 2. Mine definitely looks like 90 degrees. Maybe someone else can offer an option as well?

• I used the basic oscillator section for the TGSL below, except I changed the capacitor values to determine resonant frequency of the RX coil.

• Ok, thanks and what was yours values of C1 and C2 ? First You have to measure inductance and insert to this pattern?

What have you got in mind Davor ?

• I'm thinking of a simple and frugal analogue divider (tangent of the target angle) and after some signal conditioning connect it to a dial instrument.
It would not make much sense if a digital VDI unit uses less than 10mA.

Are you planning something like this?

Yes. I've tried some UXO detectors in bright sunlight and learned that their leds and other indicators worth a squat when our local star is in zenith. True, a dial can be banged out of it's bearings, but it either works or it doesn't, and you can always tell.
The whole difference is in analogue vs digital division of the X and Y signal, and a whole bunch of milliamperes.

I stood aghast when I learned that Raspberry PI draws over 300mA at any given moment. That was only a moment after I learned that it is also crippled on I/O, and a few moments before I started comparing these basic parameters of other popular platforms with micros. Analogue rules!

This is not the way to attach images in the Geotech forum.
