Someone has the schematic in eagle format? isn't better the pcb rf input area shielded with copper somthing like tv tuners cage?
..Silverdog when is back to stock the idx kits?
Hello Nico. Can you please ask your question again? It did not translate well.
Don..
somebody can 'it make as for the tgsl compiling in a file or a file pdf all which one needs to manufacture a idx pro. diagram, winds, list of the components, pcb….
He's asking for a full set of instructions on how to build an IDX-PRO, similar to the one for TGSL.
In fact, that would be very useful to me as well. I have Silverdog's IDX board here on the operating table waiting for an appointment.
What? We should be asking you for help George! Wasn't sure if he was asking about coil building or not.
I can do one for IDX but still need to build the VDI module from Silverdog to make things complete. I took a detour with the Arduino thing.
Also, if someone could do a spice sim for the overall gain and frequency response that would help as well. If everyone wants to wait until I clean up all my other projects I wou ld consider it.
PeakTech is nice, usually DMMs wit L/C ability are good, these are not resonant types. Drawback is limited ability to measure very low L or C values, typical for RF designs, but just fine for MD work.
Here is a little trick to measure very low values of L or C.
First measure a known large value that the DMM can accurately measure.
Next add the low value L or C to the known value, and measure again
you will then see the added value
works every time.
I've try to make SMD schematic version of IDX with Eagle , DO NOT USE to make pcb may contain errors! there something to fix also about some points R18 'Y' side has no termination same
as 'X' , i am newbie bout cad design hopesomeone expert fix it so iwill make the pcb, passive components is 1206 smd size so esasier to soldering.

Don.
I'm just beng lazy.
Silverdog asked to me to take a look at a unit that he has built, but unfortunately I've just not had a spare moment to go over it yet. If there was a convenient package of info somewhere (schematic, pcb and any useful notes) it might prompt me to find a few minutes to fix the damn thing. Don't worry about lots of detail, or the VDI. I just have the basic unit to examine.
I tried building an Arduino inductance meter featured on youtube. Like you said the lower inductances measured close, but not the larger inductances. My Rx coil was measuring 50mH, when I knew that it was only 35mH.
Hi Don I measure my coils in stolen moments on works HP bridge - By default this unit uses 100kHz as the exciter tone for the measurement.
I found with larger coils the displayed values were not as expected. When I set the kit at 10kHz for the measurement it was all good.
What frequncy does you meter use - if its a high frequency, you can be approaching resonance of the coil and get odd numbers - especially with larger coils, as the distributed capacitance between the large quantity of windings is big and forms the tank cap.
The Rx and resistance is a bit too high, but seems to be forgiving with this as all works just as good as White's stock coils.
Anyone know what the down side is of a coil with a lower Q factor?
There is immeasurably small currents in Rx coil -- esp on small finds, so copper losses are not all that.
Having a lower Q will reduce phase sliding from the slight frequency pull which occurs when the coil approaches or raises from the ground.
A really peaky coil cap combination would have more steep slope either side of res, and is more of a handfull.
Coil update:
Without a doubt, best coil I ever made!
1) This coil with Silverdogs IDX kit hits all of them loud and clear in DISC mode and is more stable and deeper than my 9" and 10" homebuilt DD coils.T
2) My TGSL MIGHT hit the first one on a good day with a 10" DD coil
Hi Don, what is your stock coil on your IDX? Is it the 10" DD?
If so, and you have both coils available, is it possible to do a coil swap comparison on the same afternoon..??
If the small concentric is better than the larger DD I would make it my next coil project - If I could get a shell !!
Wooow man it is the beautest IDX I have ever seen, really great job! What kind of shield you use in that coil, and what about wett grass problem with two tone mode is it ok?
Regards.
