Hello Friends. Am making coils for a IDX head with a CC mold I have. I got the TX coil parameters, but it still fails with the RX. I have the right inductance (34.9mH) correct resistance (a little high 144 Ohms) but I can not right the exact capacitance. The meter indicates -1.045 uF (minus) and the frequency is close to 0.27 kHz with a 33nF cap in parallel.

I tried to compensate with capacitors placed in parallel but I can not make it vary significantly. Did anyone notice what is my mistake?

Hello again. I want to thank the community of Geotech for not answering my previous post, because thanks to that I could learn a bit more about what measurements do to make the coil work properly.


I built the IDX version of post # 36, but finally put the values of Silverdog board (there's some pictures in the forum, at the start of the thread)

Size of the Coil: TX 21cm, RX 11cm. I got an annulment of 0.1 mV and is detecting between 32cm (strong) and 34cm (hum) on the test bench. It was a matter of wires, turns and cancellation (now I think I understand the whole process).

Ferrite bar makes a few cracks up to 3 GB potentiometer and then disappears, so I think ground balance works well. Discrimination does not work well:from "0" to "5"works very little. Until "5" sees a small nail, and then, suddenly, everything disappears (coins, pure silver, nails, etc.) but I think that will be fixed when I shield the coil or I'll see how.

Just to share experiences.

hello, if you want to run start by searching the documentation to know the functioning of vlf detectors as indicated Qiaozhi you subsequently start the TGSL project which is already very good for beginners. Once completed you will have learned a lot about the operation, design, settings vlf detectors.

OK , for DD 27 cm (10 inch)

TX : 34 turns diamètre 0,6 mm with the capa 1 µf > 1,7 ohms > 0,59 mH

RX : 260 turns diamètre 0,2 mmet with capa 47nf > 90,4 ohms > 34 mH
