Here in the UK it's under 1000K form one end to the other diagonally
OK,, Yes 200ks from major Shopping such as Electronic -stores Large super-markets etc etc..
We do have general food stores within 25ks ,chemist, doctor etc but no specialist stores ..
Since having computer I shop online for electronic bits ,that is I am not driving to Adelaide ,where we have 2x really good Electronic shops..
The one good thing about living here is only 130 residents in our small town [A farming district] BOOBOROWIE..
Well I am to test another DD coil & my H/made shell & will not pot untill nulled for certain !!!! STEVES advice ..
I was to decide on what cable to use [Asked in last post] Wether 2x coax ,or,4x core individual screened cable has advantages over the USB2 such as better detection [senitivity etc]???
I see most are happy with the USB 2!!!! But I have the above cable also..
I would go with the usb2 Barry. Ive never used it so cant comment.
Nel use 2 coax's as do ML on some, like Explorer2.
Belden 2x twisted pair screened is one option.
i dont think any has more sens over any other, the loss thru all of these is fairly low.
If you will be out detecting on wet lush long lawn/meadow grass there was a screen connection option in Dons TGSL write up for a DD.

That wet grass problem with the TGSL was a real pain in the butt. It didn't seem to matter what coil I made or how may circuits I put together. I like to hunt at night alot and wet grass is a normal thing. Keeping the shield grounding separate from the Tx and Rx coil definitely solved my headaches.
The White's grounding scheme is the same as what I came up with for the TGSL project, so you should not run into that.
Also, I was wondering how others made out with USB cabling for the White's coils. I have only tried Belden 8723 so far with the IDX project.
On a different note.. more snow here in the Eastern U.S. last night. 4 times in one week Uhh.. Snow covered with ice, covered with snow, covered with snow. Walking in the yard is a B!7(h!!!.
Don..
Ok Don , for the wet grass I'll try again DD coil between the two shields. we'll see what happens. for the moment I'm trying to make a elliptical coil for IDX detector I think it is much more complicated to balance that double D coils

Not all USB2 are the same. There are some dreadful cheap ones on eBay. Unfortunately you can't tell from a picture or from feed back. I have used a USB2 cable with no problems go with a known brand there not much dearer.
Had a good couple of hours out with homemade IDX (original silverdog board no modifications) with a stock 8" concentric.
Not had much success in the past over wet salt beaches. Started to use a different pair of headphones and the good and bad tones are much more pronounced. Ground balance over the wet ground was just pass the range on my potentiometer (will have to adjust this) and searching in all metal mode then testing in disc mode if the target is iron. Keeping the coil the same height from the ground and searching in all metal mode the lack of ground balance did not make that much difference. Most of the finds were from an area about 20 foot by 15 foot and not much junk dug

Was this on fairly wet salt sand - if so you did well - these cant really run on wet sand. Drier sand and dry sand is fine for these, as is clean soil, and short dry grass.

Yes very wet and some from under a few inches of water in rock pools.
Still can't work the area where the very dry meets the damp (jumps all over the place) but the the fully wet is very doable.
Could not work any very small pools as the edge of the water to the sand gave a signal.
Floating the coil on top of the water and moving the coil very slowly gave very good results. The old 10p came from under 3 or 4 inches of water.
Could not ground balance over the wet sand out side of my range. But by moving the coil very slowly slight up and down movement are noticeable in all metal mode but easy to deal with as soon as you over a real target it really jumps out I just had to slow the sweep speed right down.
Once over a target switched to disc and only moving the coil a few inches from side to side listen for a clean tone.
Normal sweep speed in disc mode pops and squeaks all over the place.
The old padlock was the only iron I dug and this was a slightly iffy signal
one of the 9mm FMJ gave a slightly iffy signal that I probably would not have dug but noticed it was sitting on the ground
Majority of the finds were from a tight area did walk either side and the finds were a lot more sparse. Ground was slightly different think it had been dumped from somewhere else in the last storms
Strange range of dates musket ball to WW2 ignoring the old decimal coin that was from about 50 yards away
Im struggling to recall if the machine Ive used on the beach was my old IGSL or IDX. However, I didnt think either would fly on wet sand - the one I tried didnt like the boundary between wet and dry either - it also did not like patches of rock under the sand.
It did well on damp or dry sand. Cant recall if pools were ok. I guess the surf is a no go - realm of the Pi or dual freq like the fisher.
I live in central england so I dont get to the coast. I must get to the beach on a solid low tide. Ive a reasonable Surf and an IDX at 12kHz I shall take.
I havent ran my car since oct as redundancy in june last messes up finances. I have been refurbing my car and hope to get it going and thru mot in next couple of weeks. Then Ill make a day trip to coast and have a big session.. See how the idx ans surf Pi do..
it also did not like patches of rock under the sand.
Yep I have had that the damp held by rocks under the dry sand act like the boundery between dry and wet.
You can work the boundary but it's too much like hard work. Most finds are on the wet side. You have to stand with your back to the sea and swing the coil in a straight line not in an arc then shuffle you feet like a crab and only do about 1/2 meter at a time. As you keep the same dampness under the coil you can make slow progress but even this fails if you cross a gully. You normaly have to be in be all metal mode and you ears get use to the small up and down of the threshold and a target rises quicker and more consistent.
Forgot to mention that I was running at full sens on the full wet did not have to back it down at all for patchy areas I have to turn it right down for disc to work stably.
Hope everything goes well for the car and job front.
hi my friend koalai want know , do you change your detector ame last changes that Mr golfnut send for me in page 85 ( i think )when i finish Dp2 , i want change my idx like last version that Mr golfnut send here.i can not reject iron and can not reject ferrite , are you remember ?regardsand if possible say me your changes on your idx
