  • if anyone here can unravel it its you waikiki, it just seemed strange as i have never seen trackers on geotech.
i'm i right i thinking if this was a google tracker, the threads here would show in google searches, not sure how they work just get ghostery to block them all.

        • Oh yes. Now I get it. That code was a content of PNG image file "PNG IHDR(-SsBIT" with address: http://mystatus.skype.com/smallicon/sead.pajazetovic3
Once code was mentioned in the post it was copied into all keyword tags by vBulletin automatically so I saw it everywhere.

Also everything looks legit. Anyone who add a skype address into profile will have a small "X" image near his name with address mystatus.skype.com/smallicon/BLABLABLA.
So if you click on it you can call his Skype. It is vBulletin feature. Looks like nothing to worry about.

          • Hi,
I've build my own IDX from Silverdog and also build a searching coil.
            TX dia 23 cm (9 inch), wire 0.7mm (21G), 0.587 mH and 1μF cap
            RX dia 10 cm (4inch) , wire 0.18mm (33G), 35.6 mH and 58nF cap
When I try to set up it then the sensitivity is very poor.
I checked the winding directions it's OK,
I measured a very interesting thing when I used 1uF cap in TX coil the RX has totally same frequency about 6.5 kHz
and then when I used 2uF for TX then the frequency of TX and RX = 4.6 kHz.
            I don't understand it...

My DISC gate signal shape is similar than golfnut's (thanks a lot for it )...

What did I do wrong? Where I have to start the investigation? Any idea?

            Thanks

The RX and TX should have the same the same frequency it's the phase that changes with a change with a change in RX caps
by tweaking the RX caps trail and error you should be able to increase the detection distance but don't go too far that ground balance or disc fails. Also if tuned for max depth in air test the coil can become unstable over real ground.

HI STEVE & ALL ,Thanks for that tip mate,,,I was looking at the feedback cap c19 on U6 wondering to reduce that
would raise tone frequency similar to an audio type circuit ????, but i will try your trimmer ..

I will be building a second IDX for my son as soon as we get kit & or boards from S/DOG ..

THEN I want to build a second one for myself with a view to detect Gold [ie] smaller targets !!!, will look to raise frequency & a new coil to suit ..This will be an experimental project so as to leave my already built one as is for coins etc..

I see later detectors used for gold are into the very high frequency range [Unafordable to me] Whites make a couple a TDI & a GMT ..these are listed as ''OZ-SERIES-UNITS'' GARRETT make the ''INFINITY'' which seens another good machine but again expensive ..

OF course the modern machines are going with fancy readouts [LCD screens etc] but for practical use I feel that all unesasary,, ''EARS only should suffice in my book..

Would be nice to be able to build a similar DIY unit ??????BUT Would need boards as I cannot buils self made PC-Boards myself!!..

I feel for Coins this IDX is a great machine rivalling many more expensive Trasure type units ..

BEEN away for the weekend [non-hobby-BUGGA] but back to my IDX project ,,COOLER weather now here.. CHEERS to ALL DIYERS & ALL ,,,,,,,,BARRY..

                  • Hi Barry, your right the tone is product of C and R so its easier to tweak a pot than swap out caps. I did this on mine last summer and ran it with the case open - So I could settle on a tone which I felt gave my ear the best note for detect. When doing this live over buried targets it seems to get "that note" for you. All detectors should have adjustable tone.

WELL ,,,STEVE ,Thats a great mod & it worked perfectly ,I fitted a 100k trimmer & found a sweet-spot & removed trimmer & placed a fixed resistor [1/8th-watt] x in my case 85-100k ,But you are correct a tone control would be nice for field test & ones ears [''My EARS -are 74 Years-OLD ,HA.HAAAR]..I guess we could use a multi-core audio light cable & fit a pot ??? but another control would get the panel too busy ???..

WELL I closed up my Coplanner-coil [Thanks DON],,,after some more tweaking of null & RX cap ,I finally found that I was trying to keep too close to .033!!!,, I was convinced that it needed to be under .033 ''WRONG'' After setting the RX at 6,60kh ,,That I needed to increase the RX cap for very good GEB -reject ferrite & get disc working A-OK I ended up with .047 !!!!! .I feel that wire guage etc must play a part in all of this & being able to get the mh readings acurate ,I think I need to invest in one of those LCD JOBS as I have 2x multimeters with inductance & both read differently ????..

THIS seemed to also increase my ''Air-Gold-ring test'' by several CM over my earlier DD coil air tests !!,rejects small steel well ,..pliers etc etc..

Steve I adapted your 12v switched mod & found it gives a stronger signal [''HIT''] , it will be interesting to try if it hears better on a buried target

CANT wait to try-out tomorrow in daylight ..on some buried targets ..

FOUND a better Pole [wand] A adjustable car washing brush ,will buy one soon as its retractable for travelling ..

I would highly recommend STEVES tone mod & also the VOL-Control posted earlia in this thread..[both easy mods]

ALSO as I am a'' First M/D DIY builder''!,,, I strongly advise any one building this great IDX to ''READ'' this thread several times because most answers are in here ,though the help of the more learned members likes of GOLF-NUT ,KOALA,S/Dollar DON, & many others who give great Advice ,I say Thankyou to ALL ,,,,,,,,,,,BARRY

ready with the new modifications that increase perforomance,
and tested and warranty directly from white,

                          • Well done Barry

Hopefully you will inspire other to stick with this project

Best of all this detector holds it's own against much more expensive machines.

I use a 8" CC a lot and detects really small items well. Last time out I found I very small cartridge case 6mm dia and 10mm long wafer thin probably a reduced charge from a Victorian shoot the duck at the fair type game. Also a very thin slice of coin only 6mm and also wafer thin. Just need to find that diamond stud earring

Take a bit of getting use to learn the different tones and volumes. I found slowing my swing right down on difficult ground really improves it's performance

Good luck with your next build and you have many good finds

HI KOALA,, I tried some buried coins today & tested the DD & 8'' coplaner ,,,the Coplaner is better by a couple inches .. But the heel & toe of the DD is a good pointer as well ..that was a 2cent oz coin at about 5 '' in my garden would go deeper I will experiment further ..

One observasion was using Steves 12v-8v switching method , on 12v ,,it makes no difference to the 8'' coplaner!!!!,, BUT helps the 27cm DD ????a slightly stonger ''hit'' sound ..maybe slightly deeper ..

CHEERS MATE ,,ARE you able to get-out detecting ??? is your weather better ?? Down here is perfect at present & I need to go somewhere to actully test my 1st M/D ..

                                CHEERS ,,,,BARRY..[ps]

Bought the CAR-Washing brush [adjustable shaft alluminium with gland clamp easy to adjust] will adapt my unit to that will make a good wand $20.00 aud at a Cheap as chips shop ,,3/4'' into 1'' very light tubing ..
                                will show pics when finished..
