I have all these building instructions, I have also read all the messages in this thread. But that wasn't my question

the RX not connected to anything or the RX circuitry will show the TX frequency
you can connect the RX coil and capacitor to the TX to measure the frequency
If you use the inductance and capacitors on page one of this thread everything is golden

Thank you, that was a good and valuable tip. I now have 2 very good running coils ready. I also noticed that the original Whites coils have bad tolerances, I have 2 Blue Max coils, one oscillates on TX at 6.60 and the other at 6.62Khz. The coils that I made myself are exactly at 6.59Khz and have about 4-5cm better depth than the original ones. Only the DD27 coil can not run properly, despite the exact values, the ground balance cannot be maintained ... always missing sounds when panning ...

if its a DD you made
it matter which side of the null point you use
I can't remember which side works best. But the phase changes and discrimination plus ground balance will be out. If you are right on the null point the coil became twitchy
getting the shielding is also critical for a smooth running coil
yes factory coils under preform but are ultra stable.
I found however carefully I build a coil their always preform slightly different.

IDX PRO AUTO MAN TUNE AUDIO
hi masters,
Is there a sprint layout file belonging to the circuit?
Has anyone ever tested or has a video.
regards

sounds about right. Does depend on your ground
I get 10 inches on a well worn UK pre decimal half penny.
but that only with less discrimination than you would normally use

found some air tests for the original IDX with bills mods and original coils.
Modified IDX Pro w/6?" diameter 5.3 BullsEye coil
Internal Speaker w/audible Threshold
Discrimination at minimum
Toggle at 'Normal' / 'Black Sand'
5? = 7?" / 8"
1? = 7⅜" / 7?"
25? = 8" / 8⅜"

Killer B 'Wasp' headphones w/audible Threshold

I found by adjusting the Rx capacitor you could increase the distance in air test by a fair bit. However it does not translate into real word improvement in the fields and made the machine unstable, with one exception dry powdery sand. For some reason air and ground closely match here with no negative chatter.
I have seen YouTube videos with nearly 50 cm in air tests. This is possible. Just useless in the real world.
Its been about 10 years since I have used the IDX
from memory you could improve distance by changing the threshold slightly. If you turn it up too High you can't tell how deep targets are.
My pinpoint / all metal mode was effected by which headphones I used. Again from memory I got an extra 1/2" using earbuds. But can't remember if that was before I changes the audio driver transistor.
small thin silver coins on edge were almost undetectable on edge with a stock 8" concentric if you use too much discrimination
