  • Newbie question on PIs

    Hello Guys/Engineers etc.
I would like to have some drawings on a PI Search Head/Single or Dual, wire size and turns and coupling, etc.
I think it was Amtech that sent me a VLF head design, very simple build. Tell him I said Thxs.
I think I have choosen the Hammer Head I, mainly because all the designs were easy to find on your site.
I am no professional Hunter...Time Killer mostly.
Bottom line, Im asking...is this PI good enuff for leasure activities(at the beach)?
2 things I like in electronic projects Simplicity and Cost.

    Thanks

The Hammerhead is definitely suitable for the beach. However, it is a reasonably complex design with many options. Depending on your skill in electronics, you might find it somewhat confusing. A simpler PI design to build is the Surfmaster PI (longboard). PCBs are available from Silverdog's shop.

        Screaming mad search head parts

Today I located my copper wire for my search heads.
        SWG 32 and 36.
Cost $130 dollars just for the wire for 1 unit.
Im building 2 units. The Magnum VLF(1) per Amtech's help and the Hammer Head I PI from the schematics on this site.
Gentlemen ! Can u help me find / discover the cost / Company, for 2 search heads. 1 PI for the Hammer Head 1 and for the Magnum 1 VLF.
I know with 1 scratched /broken enamelled copper wire on the search heads I am cooked and will never be able to tune these units.
I hope with your help on the shipping +cost info, I can tell this guy in Bangkok "no thxs".
May the Gods of the Hidden Japanese Gold be with me.

I Don't know What Wire you bought for $130.00, But it sounds like you got RIPPED OFF.
Even with Shipping charges, that is WAY TOO MUCH.
I could probably have sent you it For About $25.00 and Enough to do a few Coils.

Also, 32 and 36 AWG is Pretty Small wire for as PI.

              Copper wire scam

Im looking on page 7 of this Magnum VLF Head Design by Andy Flind. SWG36 200 turns @ 4 inches = 800 in.(pick up coil). SWG32 60 turns @735mm per turn = 44100mm/1736.2 in.(Search Coil).
I hope Im reading these numbers right.

Refund settled and a free coke.
                Whole mess was $11.00.
                Credit card stopped payment
                All cool now

That may be ok for a VLF design, but you are talking about a PI in this thread.
