  • Gardiner info wanted

    Hi Melbeta,

you are better info source as the Library of Congress.

Probably you have an old promo catalog of metal detector models of former Gardiner Electronics Co. from Phoenix, Ariz. too and are willing to post copy here or PM me?

    Thanks in advance.

Not sure just what it is you want...

Wow! Better than the Library of Congress? That is a compliment!

WM, First of all I was a national advertising dealer for a number of metal detector manufacturers, but not all of the companys, and Gardiner was not one of them, so I have no brochures or catalogs from Gardiner. I have never stocked or sold Gardiner products.

However, that does not mean I do not know anything about Gardiner. I have a friend who collects material on Gardiner, and I can ask him if I know just what it is that you are looking for... I have all of the Gardiner patents in my collection as well.

You can email me you know...

Let me know just precisely what it is you are searching for, as I may have it, or can get it. What I would get would be from my records and/or from old service companies, that would not want it posted. I get a lot of hand drawn schematics that they reverse engineered from the units in order to repair them. So they would not want that private material posted, either by me, or by you. I wanted to clear that up...

And some would be from manufacturers, who would not want me to post their material.

I can pull some advs from old metal detector magazines, as I have a pretty complete collection going back in time, but cannot guarantee that I have everything...

Thanks for your kind reply Melbeta.

I am only searching for pictures of all (or at least main) marketed models of Gardiner electronics metal detector. As clear pictures as possible. Such pictures are usually posted in producer brochure or catalogue. I think there was no more than 5 or 7 models.

I am thoroughly web searched but data are very poor, if even exist. So I would be very grateful for those Gardiner models pics. I am keen to buy Gardiner Electronics metal detector brochure or catalogue too.

My web searching results (I can found only very poor quality promo ads from two old USA magazines - recipe from 1966 here as free add):

Hello WM6 . We need to start a new topic !!!

This is Compass Fraud not Gardner . I am also interested in the 30 khz Treasuretron model C schematics , circuit board photos .

Hi Eugene, thanks for reply, agree about new topic (of course it depend of our admin).

But, Eugene, I am not talking about Gardner (not very known to me) I am talking about Gardiner (former Gardiner Electronics, Phoenix, Arizona). As I understand it is about different producer?

The Gardner I thought you were talking about was the company in Phoenix , Arizona that made the Lunch Box Metal Detectors and have the HUGE Search coils . Mr.Gardner first built his machines out of his garage !!

I hope we are searching for the same thing like the TreasureTron C "Deep-seeker" model with manual ground balance [VLF 30 khz] ?

            Best Regards............Eugene

Seems we are talking about the same person, but you are a little wrong spelling his name. It was Gardiner not Gardner. Robert F. Gardiner which own Gardiner Electronics.

                not = John Gardiner

Since the question will probably come up in this thread: John Gardiner, engineer at FTP-Fisher, is unrelated to Gardiner of old time beepers fame. But maybe there's something in a name? I know of two other Dave Johnsons who are metal detector engineers, and have met in person about 4 others who are/were longwave radio engineers/experimenters.

The Gardiner patents are a good place to start researching Gardiner stuff, since the patents are online (probably on this website). Gardiner was the master of eddy current dampened oscillator & related technology, and even had a multiple frequency unit.

Reports on whether the Gardiner units were competitive with 1970's VLF performance are inconsistent. That would mean about 8 inches in ground balanced all metals mode on a coin buried in soil with some iron mineralization. Never had my hands on one myself. Maybe some worked pretty good by the standards of that day but were held back by poor mechanical design?

Eddy current dampened oscillator metal detectors can make a good hobbyist metal detector project since they don't require an induction balanced searchcoil or a low noise receiver amp. And the technology itself isn't obsolete: it's the basis for most industrial metal proximity detectors and some fixed installation tramp metal detectors.

                --Dave J.

                  Thanks Dave for valued information.

Yes, I put myself question not only once regarding relation with John Gardiner, engineer at FTP-Fisher, now I know and many others too. There must be something predictable in names, obviously.

Question regarding "eddy current dampened oscillator": is not all TX oscillator eddy current dampened in some way? Can we take advantage of this fact as possibilities for new combined technology? Or eddy current dampened oscillators technology is lack for such an outcome?
